Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?
There was a brilliant Moe centered episode about 2-3 years back, I considered it a perfect episode. The one after it was a tired Homer or Bart story told a hundred times before that I found dreadful. So I stopped there cuz it was close to a enough to high note that I didn't want to fall backwards any more then it did.

I think I stopped in Season 4.

And to keep on topic, I haven't watched in 10-15 years.

Actually no idea, but I own the first 8 seasons on DVD and will still catch shows in syndication but don't budget time on Sunday evening to watch the show anymore (and haven't in years).

Looking at the IMDB episode descriptions, it looks like it was sometime in season 15/16. I don't really miss it either. Thought the movie was funny though.

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?
There was a season premiere many years ago where The Who provided guest voices (I think at one point in the episode Springfield was divided in two). That's the episode I realized The Simpsons did nothing more than try to grab any celebrity they could get their hands on to provide voices and added them into the episode (or wrote an entire episode around them) for no other reason than to have them on the show.
I stopped watching on a regular basis after that. In my opinion, the never ending stream of celebrity guest stars were the beginning of the end for The Simpsons.

Sometime around 2000. I've still seen an episode here an there, but if only if there's nothing on. Older reruns will always grab my attention though.

I'm not one of those fans that despise anything past Season 9. I find every season to have it's ups and downs. I am in the "Mike Scully ruined the show" camp, though. That signified the beginning of the end. But then you wonder how fresh it would have stayed if someone else had become showrunner since Al Jean hadn't done much since taking over and he's been with the show since Season 3.

I watched it when it was part of the Tracey Ullman Show. Damn, I was still in high school then
After that I probably only watched the first couple seasons and then just a scattering of episodes here and there. I haven't seen a single episode in maybe 10 years. Glad to see it's still on though. Makes me feel not so old

I am going to be in the minority, but I have always watched and still enjoy the show. Is it as good as it once was...no. But it is a totally different show now and I am ok with that.

I think I hung on until somewhere around season 16 and then bowed out. Just started feeling more and more re-hashed/tired as time went on.

Even though I thought the show had peaked years ago, I continued to watch it religiously for years after. I remember that it was the episisode That '90s Show during season 19 that totally turned me off. I guess it's the comic book nerd in me that hates when stuff gets retconed, but to see the Simpsons history so radically changed to where stuff that was supposed to happen BEFORE the show began in 1989 (Homer and Marge's relationship before getting married), suddenly time shift into the 1990s when the show was ACTUALLY ON THE AIR ALREADY, bothered me to no end. Add this to the fact that there were weeks I would lliterally not even crack a smile and there you have it.

Amazingly, that was the show's 250th episode, so halfway through it's run.

Not that it doesn't feel weird that when the show premiered I was the same age as Bart, and now I'm quickly approaching Homer's age.

But they pretty much have to. Bart is always 10, Lisa is always 8, Maggie is always 1ish. If the Simpsons are always tied to the now, then their past has to be fluid.

that is weird! I was 19 when the show started and I'll be 42 this year (three years older than Homer!). I don't know that you'd HAVE to constantly be rewriting their history, but I get it. But Homer inventing grunge? Pass.
