I only watch The Office now out of habit, usually while fucking around on my laptop or phone, and would not bat an eye if the show abruptly went off the air, never to return. So, with that said, I will not watch this.

I dont think Helms and Kalin would be missed... John K is a huge part of the show imho, keeping him is essential.. but then again, i am ready for the show to end...
Shutte Farms B&B Sounds a bit like Fawlty Towers.. could be ok, I would sample...

Even though The Office still gets decent ratings on Thursday, it has to be getting pretty expensive to produce now, especially for a 30 minute show. The cast is huge and I assume it's going to cost NBC an arm and a leg to re-sign everyone for a 9th season, especially Helms and Krasinski.
Likely should have brought in a new cast member (i.e. James Spader or where's Garry Shandling or Bob Newhart these days?) who doesn't come with the baggage of a paycheck that has been growing from season one.

Misread the article. On first glance, I thought they were saying parks and rec was the first attempt at a spinoff.

I can only see this working if The Office was not on the air, not both at the same time.

I'm just generally tired of Dwight. He's a great character but after 8 seasons it's gotten a little old. I'll obviously try it out still but I'm not expecting another Office.

When they talked about a CHEERS show that spun-off one of the characters to a "family" environment, my immediate thought was THE TORTELLIS.

Re: NBC developing The Office spinoff starring Rainn Wilson for 2013
I wish the Dwight-Angela relationship had continued and eliminated the storyline where she was engaged to Andy since it took the characters to the pinnacle of unlikability. Since I veered away from the show for a while when they were constantly promoting Michael Scott's departure, I wasn't sure if the baby contract was still in force and if she was carrying his baby after she got married. Based on comments on other sites, this doesn't appear to be the case.
Of course, I also thought Frasier was going to fail miserably without Lilith (since Bebe Neuwirth wanted to go back to theatre). It would have been interesting to see them in a long-term relationship on Schrute farms a la Green Acres.
Considering how odd Mose is, I wonder if they're going to somehow make Dwight the sane straight man surrounded by the chaos of the Schrute family (like Newhart). The thing about Dwight that's interesting is that even though he's odd and occassionally surly, he surprises you with his kindness once in a while (like in The Injury, Doomsday or China episodes).
If they do pick up the series, they should at least run it for a full season. Considering how bad P&R and the early episodes of The Office were, it seems like it takes a while for the show runners to find their groove.
