The show is made for entertainment, not realism. Dexter would have been caught many times over in real life by now so if you have a hard time suspending disbelief in order to watch it the show is obviously over your head. This season has been very good in terms of entertainment if you ask me and Dexter is one of the funnest shows to watch at least in my opinion.

Dexter/Deb, Angel/sister, Travis/sister - and now maybe Louis (the nerdy intern) and possibly Ryan (the hot and fired intern) being related - especially since he has the Ice Truck arm in his pad - altho I get the feeling that might not be his place and may be his sister's (Ryan). What dude has a painting of woman like that on his wall?

I think that Deb's shrink is in it on it somehow (I don't really, but thought I'd throw that out there) - maybe she'll show up in he next season and you can give me "mad props" for calling it in S5 Ep9.

First, I thought Gellar being dead would be a really obvious "twist" and that the writers were deliberately trying to mislead viewers into thinking this was the upcoming twist and that Gellar wasnt really dead.
And then I thought writers would realise that viewers would see that writers would not make Gellar dead and that writers were just trying to mislead viewers.
But then, the writers would see that the viewers might realise that the writers were misleading them with the Gellar was dead; so the twist would actually be that Gellar WAS in fact dead.
And then my head started hurting, so lets just say that I am surprised Gellar is dead.

Dexter is always a fun show, but until this episode I was on the fence as to whether this was a great season, or just okay. This episode cemented me firmly in the just okay camp. Geller being dead was just way to obvious. I was expecting the writers to have another twist up their sleeves and the Travis working on his own thing would be misdirection. That would have elevated the season to some level of greatness. But this is all just a little too obvious.
Oh well, still enjoying the season, but this particular twist is disappointing. At least Angel's sister is hot.

Weren't some people here saying last season that Jordan Chase was the most boring season villain?

I'm also in the "this season is kinda boring" camp. Still an entertaining show, but I'm getting tired of dexter finding and killing another serial killer every season. Throw away that formula and move in a new direction.

The show's basic plotline doesn't really allow for much variation.

Every season except 2 has had dexter tracking/following/killing another serial killer (and 2 was more about himself, also a serial killer). Apparently miami has more active serial killers than the rest of the country combined. It's tired. As for ideas? I don't know, any other concept they can imagine except those involving serial killers. I'm not a tv show writer, but I think that leaves a fair amount of room to work with and still stay within the bounds of the show.

Maybe Gellar is still alive...that was just his twin brother in the freezer. That'll be the twist that no one expects.
Actually, it is pretty hard to believe that a single person could pull off all the tableaus - the horses, the angel, his sister...

I'm kinda wondering if he has split personality disorder and "becomes" Gellar if you will....unlike Dexter, who just imagines his Dad and is having a conversation in his head. Travis seemed to genuinely care about his sister.

Yeah that's what I was thinking Osiris, since he seemed way more conflicted. But if he isn't a split-personality, then he is probably better at faking people out than Dexter himself (except for the fact that he was identified quite easily by both Dexter and the police.)

There's at least a split personality aspect. That seems pretty obvious. When we see him wake up in this episode after the killing, he's seen doing the universal shaking the cobwebs out of his head gesture that people suffering from blackouts in movies and TV usually do. He clearly didn't know what he had done the night before.

I don't really see why Travis is such a boring character according to a bunch of people in this thread. It's not a perfect season and the Gellar angle was somewhat predictable but we're also a bunch of Internet fanboys who watch shows differently than the average viewer. I personally feel Travis is a pretty interesting character as he's different than other villains the show has had and the kills have been pretty inventive. The character is a lot better than Jordan Chase ever was and I'd say he's better than The Skinner as well (although I don't hate season 3). There likey won't be another villain as good as Brian or Trinity because those characters were just too memorable. Trinity for Lithgow's amazing performance which is hard to top and Brian because he was the first and had the surprise element of being Dexter's brother.

It may be the least satisfying kill of a Dexter "big bad" when (if?) Dexter finally kills Travis. He really doesn't seem to be malicious, but I guess we haven't really seen the other side of him yet. Where does Dexter's code stand with regards to killing someone with a serious mental disorder? The best twist to the season would be if Dexter actually allowed the police to capture Travis instead of killing him.

Now that we know Gellar was a figment of his imagination, they can have Travis operating openly in Gellar mode now.

Re: Dexter -- "Get Gellar" -- 11/27/11
I can't believe no one mentioned Fight Club yet. Gellar was dead all along and he manifested as Travis' alter ego, because Travis was too weak to make all that happen on his own. The alter ego Gellar is not like Harry or Rudy. Dexter isn't schizophrenic. Harry and Rudy represent the light and the darkness in Dexter and they are there to give the viewers a better understanding of how Dexter thinks, and since Dexter can only be truly honest with himself, he can't talk to anyone but his conscience (Harry/Rudy). If he was schizophrenic then he would not be able to act on his own will. He is aware of his actions and he doesn't blame his Harry or Rudy for what he did. There is a difference between the representation of conscience through contrasting characters, and an alternate personality.
If you have honestly predicted that Gellar was Travis' alter ego, then I feel sorry for you for not experiencing this awesome twist. Then again most of you are probably just saying that you have predicted it to sound smart.
Oh and for all the cynics out there saying that the show is getting bad; you are just getting bored because you are looking for clues instead of sitting back and enjoying the show.
I think this is by far the best season especially with the Fight Club deja vu.
