I have to imagine this has been planned all along. Unless they tack on some kind of post-script to the regular finale, and even then it would be rush job at this point. Or is this just more evidence that Sutter can't edit his shit down. The opener didn't need 90 minutes.

They already wrapped production for the season so it's believed that Sutter shot enough material for a 14th episode. He has said on his Twitter feed that his episodes tend to run long.
FX is really just giving him some more money for post production to create episode 14.

Gemma spoke with him in the first episode and didn't recognize him. Plus, John would probably be pushing 65-70, this guy is maybe 50.
But if he was John Teller, that would pretty much be it for me and this show.
