Shane's actions showed that the real monster...is US.

My guess is the second compendium won't come until after the trades, hardcovers and fourth omnibus have come out. So you might have a wait ahead of you.

If you go with the softcover books, start with book 9. Book 15 (which collects up to issue 90) will be out in December.
Single Issues: 89
Trade Paperbacks: 14
Hardcovers: 7
Omnibus: 3
Compendium: 1

If you are a collector the seven hardcovers are nice sitting on your bookshelf and would be a good way to bring yourself up to date.
I buy the trade paperbacks (so I don't have to wait as long and avoid as many spoilers) and sell them off when the hardcovers are released.

When I started reading the book it was already on issue seven or eight (and early issues were hard to find and expensive) so I went for the trades. I've thought about switching over to the monthly on occasion once I got caught up but honestly, I think because I blow through the trades so quickly and the cost of monthly vs. trade, I stay on this course.

Tyresse is integral to the Governor story arc.

I predict that the mother will kill herself in grief, and within minutes they will find the little girl. GREEK TRAGEDY.

I predict they will find the girl, but she'll be a ZOMBIE! The mother won't be able to help herself and will run up to give the girl a hug, only to be EATEN ALIVE.

That seems like something Darabont would do based on a certain movie of his. Don't know if his influence is still affecting the show or not though with these episodes...

I predict that Carl, after recovering from the gunshot and surgery, will borrow a gun and accidentally shoot (and kill) Andrea, right after she gives Dale a speech about how she has renewed her desire to live. M NIGHT SHYAMALAN TWIST, bitch!

Thanks for the tips on the comics, guys. I'll probably order the trade paperbacks once I finish reading the Compendium. No need to rush.

I really should have only watched the last 10 minutes, the rest was very VERY dull.

Not sure why all the Walkers were still around the school when most of the food sources were probalby long gone, one would think they would move on to find more food not shuffle around in a circle.

I predict everyone will eventually die and become a zombie. Then the squirrels will take over the earth.

They don't tend to wander off unless one spots food. Now that they ate Otis most of them will hover around that area as "lurkers" waiting for another Otis to appear. Let's say one zombie saw Shane jump into a car and speed off, that zombie will just shamble his way in the last direction Shane went (called "roamers"). If any surrounding zombies just lurking around spots that first moving zombie they'll just follow it assuming it is after food. Eventually you'll get a herd of zombies like we saw on the freeway in the season opener... in the comics we see a herd that is easily several hundred strong.

I finally watched the episode last night. I've already read about the ending so no surprise. I FF'd through all the scenes between Rick and Lori and that made the episode more enjoyable.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to buy the first hardcover and see if I like it.

Got it, I need to study up on my Walker feeding habits!

Spoiler:
sort of implied that while the "Governor" was coming up, a character that we've already met might be taking on that role... like Shane or Merle.

ETA: Here's the interview: http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/10/31/walking-dead-kirkman/

I always assumed from the first episode (after it was obvious he would cut off his own hand to escape) Merle would become the "Governor" character.

I know it's dragged on for several episodes but the girl has only been missing for less than two days. I would insist on looking for my kid for longer than that.

Given that he's just released a prose novel about the Governor, I expect that when he shows up it will be the same character from thc comics, not someone co-opting the role.

I can't complain much about this episode. Easily the most solid of the season, and one of the best overall. I agree the lighting and lenses made this one hard to follow in the dark, but it combined great character drama with solid zombie action, and what the fuck else can I ask for than that?

I keep hoping the title of an episode this year will be "Low-Down Dirty Shane"

Well... I was just checking availability on Amazon.ca, and the 3rd omnibus only had 2 copies remaining, so I decided to go for it. By the time I get through all 72 issues, I'm sure omnibus #4 will be right around the corner.

Oh, and umm... back on topic.

They should kill off at least one of the kids on the show. Everyone knows kids age too quickly for TV shows like this, plus it'll show how "edgy" they are, or something.

Kirkman has said repeatedly at conventions that Merle is NOT the Governor and never will be.

I still think Tyrese will show up at some point. With the ending of this episode Shane's eventual fate is still going to happen, just obviously at the much slower rate.

Totally agree. I tried to watch during the day and the screen was completely black 70% of the time. Ridiculous.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Save the Last One" -- 10/30/11

This was a good episode. I love the fact that Shane killed Otis, but I hated the fact that they made it so predictable. When it went from the scene of them trying to escape to him suddenly pulling up alone and saying Otis didn't make it, I pretty much knew that he had killed him. Otherwise, there was no reason for the episode to skip that section and NOT show what happened, unless Shane was lying. And why would he lie unless he'd done something shady?

If it had just happened in the course of the story instead of being flashbacked to in "the big reveal", I wouldn't have seen it coming.
