Re: The Walking Dead -- "Save the Last One" -- 10/30/11
I read a review of the episode and I'm gonna predict more bitching. This episode has the same exact structure as the last few with one big zombie scene (I assume the school escape), a little more walking around the woods, and a vast majority indoors and talking. So for the few here that can't get over the fact that the show isn't an action/adventure zombie killing video game, stay away!
You have been warned it will suck balls for you. There is no reason to watch and you will hate it.
For everyone else, it is a Shane centered episode that promises to set in motion where his character is going. That part is getting me excited.

It still makes no sense that you're all still here every week

The actual word-of-mouth on the show is we get a good episode tonight with a few good curve balls with next week being the best of the season by a far margin. I'm excited, should be fun.

Great ending, that reveal was the best moment of the new season.

Why was the episode so dark? Did they not want to spend the money on correct lenses for the camera? There are ways to shoot things at night, but so that you can still see what's happening!
I could hardly see anything!

This was an AWESOME episode. If you don't like it, you definitely need to switch over to some reality garbage, or perhaps dancing.

But I could be mistaken.
As transparent as it may have been, however, one should appreciate your attempt to imply that the people who hate the show are, in actuality, the stupid ones.

I haven't finished the episode yet, but I have a feeling Shane shot Otis so the zombies would be distracted enough so that Shane could get away.

Excellent episode, and it feels good to say that. I felt bad for poor ol' Otis. He seemed like a good guy. It'll be interesting to see how this affects Shane...

Didn't really care for the Carl subplot again, but with the foreshadowing opening sequence, I had a feeling Shane killed the guy. Actually seeing it play out was brutal.

Well, it certainly took them long enough! This and the Pilot are definitely the two best episodes of the series. Hopefully from here on out we see more of those two and less of everything that happened in between.
This show always had potential, and it's nice to see it live up to that potential once again. The writing was much better, the acting was good across the board, and there was plenty of important and believable character development. This is what we've come to expect from AMC and hopefully with different people behind the scenes this upward trend in quality will continue.
Although let's be honest, this episode could have been average and still looked spectacular by comparison.
---
I like relationship that's developing between Daryl and Andrea. Some interesting stuff going on there. And of course Shane killing another to save himself and Carl was a huge moment for the character and a real turning point for the show.
Anyone else think it was funny when Otis shot the zombie with Shane standing right in front of it? I mean, it wasn't that long ago when he inadvertently shot Carl under similar circumstances.
So when Shane and Otis were trying to get out of the school, I don't get why Shane didn't just shoot the locked door? Seems like that would have been the logical thing to do, but maybe there was a reason he didn't do it that I missed...?

GREAT episode, I really loved it. A great series is getting better. For people who hate this show: just stop watching it. If I see a new series and watch two episodes (sometimes one) that I think has "terrible writing, subpar acting, and inconsistent at best characterization" I am not stupid enough to keep watching it; I switch to something else.
I loved the comic and think the series is better.

There were two short-lived mysteries ... it took me longer to figure how the hell a zombie hangs himself than it did to guess that Shane shot Otis. (Not bitching, just saying. I'm hooked, but I'm wanting more ... I still think the first season had enough story lines they could have broke it up into two or three seasons with more detail.)
Do you suppose we will see zombie Otis? Possibly leading a horde back to the house?
I'm not sure that it was the best episode, but it certainly ranks in the top ten so far.

Outside of the pilot this is easily my favorite episode thus far. Everything felt like forward motion and (for the comic read folks)

Are they ever going to find that girl?
When Shane arrived back at the farmhouse alone, I thought I had fallen asleep and missed something. He couldn't do Otis a favor and shoot him in the head? He would've been just as tasty.
