I tested out a bunch of the new shows too and just dumped them. This year it doesn't have have a Six Feet Under or Dexter or Sopranos or Breaking bad or Lost or The Shield etc.....

It seems all that they produced this year has been garbage except for a few shows that I haven't seen yet.

I have them saved up and haven't seen yet but: Homeland & America Horror Story are the top of the list this year and funny, they are on cable which seems to produce great TV rather than Network TV.

The 2 I checked out was Suburgatory (on ep 3) and watched the pilot of The Secret Story and liked the pilot and might stick with that show. Other than that, it sucks for me. My man card is taking a hit because I'm still hitting the desperate housewives, vampire diaries, gossip girl, Supernatural. Only because I've been invested in the shows and will see how it plays out but I could dump them if great new shows came, but that hasn't been the case.
There are plenty of good shows among the batch of new shows this year. Problem is, you actually ahve to watch them to find out. So far, I know of only about 4 cancellations this season. That isnt alot.
And what is "The Secret Story"?

Re: Has this been one of the worst years ever for new shows???

Actually this has been one of the best seasons in a while:
Revenge
American Horror Story
Secret Circle
Suits

Good:
Terra Nova (though I've only watched the first two eps.)
Suburgatory -- not really funny, but entertaining

OK:
Ringer (the twists are obvious and not very suspenseful)
Pan Am
Playboy Club (I like the period dramas)
2 Broke Girls
Wilfred
Falling Skies
Hart of Dixie

Would like to watch, but don't due to conflicts/no subscription:
Person of Interest
Homeland
Game of Thrones

For some reason, I'm getting tired of Nikita and the Vampire Diaries. Gossip Girl is also getting a little boring.

That's it.
Yeah, that's all I could think of, too. It seems that this season has a good crop of solid performers.

Completely forgot about Wilfred. Loved that show.

Add me to the list who would watch Homeland/Strikeback if I had those premium channels.

So watched Homeland and Strikeback over the last few days. Definitely hooked for the long haul with Homeland, Strikeback is also some good kick ass fun.

This year for us we have added a ton of new shows to our DVR. Usually we add one show to our DVR schedule per year.

This year?

Grimm
Once upon a Time
New Girl
Game of Thrones
Homeland
Hell on Wheels
Strikeback
Wilfred

That is 8 shows just from 2011 alone.

Not for me. This has MANY more new shows I'm loving than last year did. Some of my favorites are:
Revenge
New Girl
Once Upon a Time
Person of Interest

That said, Terra Nova, The Firm and Charlie's Angels were all big let-downs.

Haven't been too impressed by this season's new shows, but am really looking forward to this new Rob Schneider sitcom "Rob". The ads for this show have been pretty hilarious ("Now I know what's going on during all those siestas" and the cast is top notch (Cheech, etc). Nice to see Schneider finally coming out of Adam Sandler's shadow. I could see this show becoming like the new "Seinfeld" if audiences give it a chance. It seems to have that same type of sly observational and ethnic humor. Plus, the chick playing Rob's wife is hot.

Really? Every time I see a commercial for Rob I think "mid-season filler that will be gone inside of 6 weeks." It looks like a one trick pony that relies on stereotypes for cheap laughs. Wait, that's exactly what American's eat up. That means it's going to be HUGE!

Re: Has this been one of the worst years ever for new shows???

I'll bring this thread up from a year ago and ask the same question. Homeland, American Horror Story, The Secret Circle (dumped eps after the cancellation) were the only new shows I watched but I think this year might be worse.

I haven't seen Revolution yet, but it's getting mixed reviews here and The Last Resort I guess had a great pilot but 2nd ep wasn't all that great. No other new shows peak my interest, and after seeing the thread here for the new shows, I don't know if there will be a break out hit this year.

Barely 2 weeks into this new TV season and you're already calling it worse than last year.

For the record, there were more than just a handful of shows from last year that were both hits critically and in the ratings and are still on the air today.

Last year was a really good year, this year naturally feels like a drop off coming.

So you haven't seen any of the shows this year?

For us we are watching revolution, last resort, elementary and Ben & Kate. I think by the end of the year that will shrink to 1-2

I only picked up Elementary (because my wife wants to watch it, mostly) and Arrow. Nothing else looked that great, honestly. And I'm not holding my breath on these two either.

So 2012 I feel is definitely worse than 2011.

We've picked up 1 1/2 shows (Revolution, watched some of Arrow, will catch the rest on demand).

We dropped Last Resort, Elementary and Ben & Kate very quickly.

So 2012 compared to 2011? Not really that close. The Americans apparently is really good, we just haven't given it a shot yet. I guess Girls is also 2012. Still, I feel that 2011 is much stronger than 2012.

Re: Has this been one of the worst years ever for new shows???

Time to bring up this thread again. I think we might have a winner here.

I can't base anything off of my personal experience as I haven't checked out any of the new shows yet but I'm just going by feedback based on comments here. It seems the only shows that are getting some good reviews here are: The Blacklist, Brooklyn nine nine, and maybe Masters of Sex but that hasn't gotten a lot of response. Looking at the premier list there aren't a lot of new shows coming out either.

I'm going to check those 3 out plus Sleepy Hollow and Marvels but I was a bit off in 2011 because of the weird schedule with Homeland, Game of Thrones and then American Horror Story but I don't think we have any big hitters coming out from the premium channels or AMC/FX.

Netflix is kicking it up a notch though. I have 2 eps left of Orange is the new black which is fantastic and then going to start House of cards next.

Re: Has this been one of the worst years ever for new shows???

Cable is still solid, last season for mad men, homeland is still ok, GOT is excellent, Shameless is good, Walking Dead is good, Orphan Black was awesome

network is sketchy, I do think Good Wife and Parenthood are high quality dramas worthy of a cable or network slot

network comedy is still what they do the best: BBT is still a great show, New Girl is solid, Modern Family is still watcing and there some promising new comedies creeping up..

netflix: House of Cards and orange were great

but no new network dramas really got me this year... maybe almost human?

Nope, this season is pretty good so far. Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Masters of Sex are solid, Sleepy Hollow is fun. I'm not sure what season Orange is the New Black is but yeah that was fantastic.

American Horror Story Coven looks like fun too (kind of a new show?)

2013:

Enjoying Agents of Shield, Sleepy Hollow, White Queen

Thought was decent/middling: Defiance

Haven't checked out but these shows seemed popular: Hannibal, Bates Motel, Orphan Black, Orange is the New Black, Rectify, Ripper Street. The Americans, The Bridge

Will give Almost Human and Dracula a decent shot

Also Crossbones looks pretty good

Sleepy Hollow and Blacklist are fantastic so far... and I'll always watch American Horror Story which is technically "new" each season.

Tried out Agents of Shield, Michael J Fox, Crazy Ones and Ironside.

Out of those I liked Ironside the most but it conflicts with CSI & AHS:Coven so it got cut tonight. Not looking strong for the others either.

Re: Has this been one of the worst years ever for new shows???

I'm on a drama shortage and nothing new has really caught my attention this season. I like to wait out a few episodes to gauge people's reactions before jumping into a new show and the only one I'm considering about adding down the road is Sleepy Hollow but I'm not exactly excited about it. I hear good things about Masters of Sex too but again, I'm not excited to watch it.

It's doubly shitty this year as a few of my shows have ended or will be ending their run this year. Then there's Homeland, a show that I used to look forward to every week that has slowly been circling the drain since about half way through last season.

I've decided to go back and pick up Arrow and Orphan Black. I'm half way through season one of Arrow and I dig it, despite it's flaws. I've only seen the pilot for Orphan Black and it was awesome, I'll jump into that once I'm done with Arrow.

Re: Has this been one of the worst years ever for new shows???

2013 has been one of the worst years for new shows, but I'm watching more TV now than in recent years.

I've stuck with:

Mom - Not the best show, but I'm a sucker for the classic sitcom style.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - It's been improving, but still needs work.

The Goldbergs - Nothing great, but genuine enough to keep.

The Crazy Ones - A big fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar back in the day. And Robin is ok. I'm hanging on for that casting alone. I'm still not sure what kind of show this is suppose to be.

The Michael J. Fox Show - It's great having Michael back on TV, but the show just isn't funny. They still need to balance things out, and hopefully make the family more likeable. Fox isn't a problem, it's his supporting cast. And I wish everyone would stop talking into cameras.

I'm going to sample Dracula and Sleepy Hollow in the coming weeks.
