Did you read any of the details of that issue? VS was getting like a pennies per DTV subscriber and they wanted renegotiate to ESPN-like money. I have no problem with DTV telling them to fuck off when it comes to a situation like this. As for this current issue, I think DTV is going to be more willing to negotiate since there are numerous channels that are affected.

I'm just saying I wouldn't bet the farm on anything by Nov. 1. It's always about money (whether it's a few pennies or a bunch of pennies per subscriber). DTV is not beyond playing hardball.

Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy creator) is losing his mind over this on Twitter. Vowing to put rough cuts of SoA episodes online, even if he is sued. Lots of swearing, down with the man, etc.

Initially I was upset over them dropping G4 last year. Almost made the switch to Dish.....but after hearing their reason for dropping it I had to agree with them. Even though I love watching AOTS and X-Play, that was all they were offering as far as original content. Rest of it was re-runs of Cheaters and Cops. BUT if they drop FX this year I'm out.

In today's day and age networks are fucking crazy if they think I'm going to go through the effort of changing my entire satellite provider instead of just going online and watching their handful of shows if I need to. Fucking idiots all around.

Directv customer here since 2003.
I would be absolutely pissed if I lost FX, especially with American Horror Story going and Sons of Anarchy for an extended period of time. I do watch alot of FOX like House, New Girl, Terra Nova, so that would be a double whammy if I lost that too.
Since the NBA is in lockout, I wouldn't be affected by losing FS West and Prime Ticket.
But as Deftones just said, this will all get done eventually. The networks and Sat companies play this game all the time when contracts are up.

I'm a bit worried because I'm DTV subscriber and I like FX, NatGeo and some of the Fox sports channels. I also saw Kurt Sutter going crazy on twitter and several of his followers who are DTV subscribers are saying they will change providers.

Reading statements from both sides, it does seem like FOX is the bad guy this time, but it's hard to tell. Regardless, there's no way I would change providers for one channel. I'm super happy with DirecTV 99% of the time.

If DirecTV the Fox cable channels. I'll stuck with them. I have been happy with DirecTV. I checked out the ourpromisetoyou site and there are people threatening drop DirecTV, but one person mentioned that he dropped DISH for a similar reason and a DirecTV rep pointed out that switching satellite or cable providers doesn't guarantee that you will never effected by carriage disputes.
I was looking at Kurt Sutter's twitter, and one person who replied to him said that she glad to have to Time Warner. Time Warner recently mentioned that the disagree with some of NewsCorp's business practices. Some of the people who think they are safe from carriage disputes need to realize that any provider can end up in a carriage dispute.

^ Exactly true. It doesn't matter who your provider is. I remember when I had Time Warner Cable there were some scares like this as well. Unfortunately, it has become a part of the business.

Yup it is apart of business. I kind of laugh at the people on twitter and other sites saying that they will change providers. I just read that last year Kurt Sutter slammed DISH during their dispute with FOX. I think DISH even dropped FX for a couple of weeks last year. He was encouraging people back then to dump DISH, a year later Sutter is slamming DirecTV and encouraging people to switch again. I guess the next provider to have dispute with FOX will be slammed by Sutter if the dispute happens during SOA's season 5 airing.

Even though the F1 season is pretty much over, it's the only sport I follow regularly and I would hate to miss the last couple races. Fortunately they aren't until the 2nd and last weekends of November so even if they do drop Speed, they will hopefully have everything worked out by then.

Which makes the whole thing a fucking joke from his end. He couldn't look like a bigger whore when he's telling people to go to DISH and a year ago was calling them ****s and the like. You know...the schtick he's doing with DirecTV now. What a toolbag.

Sutter is definitely a toolbag and I can't believe the fans are going along with his schtick. As I mentioned before those SOA fans on twitter need to realize any provider can end up in a carriage dispute.
A fan questioned Sutter about the DISH dispute from last year
@sutterink where was all this outcry when dish network did the same thing a couple years ago? I missed half a season
Sutter's reply
@ldd2142 that was last year and there was a lot of out outcry. it just wasn't enough. hence the uppage in wanting ****s dead.
It has been interesting checking Sutter's twitter feed today.
I wonder what Sutter will say if a deal gets worked out and DirecTV keeps FX.

But they're probably not. Let's see what the effect on the bottom line is at DirecTV if this actually happens. I would chalk most of the comments to be people just blowing Sutter at the moment. If he'd have put as much effort into the retarded racism storyline on this season's SoA as he is in getting people to change providers this week maybe the show would be something to actually switch over.

I don't think Glee isn't the greatest show, but I thought Sutter's rant was crazy. Glee had nothing to do with SOA and Katey being snubbed by the Emmys. The day after Sutter posted that rant he backpedaled and said that he liked Glee and Ryan Murphy. My theory is FX got mad at him and told him to backpeddal because around that time FX was in the final steps of picking American Horror Story. They probably wanted to prevent a Murphy/Sutter feud. I think Ryan Murphy is a douche, but lately Sutter is looking worse than him.

I don't care who's right or what the reasons are or how crazy the SOA guy is or what the threat of "carriage disputes" with others may be in the future, this is simple math. If I lose these channels, I'm out. That is a period.
I have been a constant DTV subscriber since 2002 and keep them - as opposed to much cheaper cable (bundled with my already massive overpriced internet connection, the bill would still be about $20 less for both together than my DTV bill is alone) or completely free and easy downloading options - due to High-Definition channel selection and quality as well as convenience. Losing FX, NatGeo, Fuel and Speed, for whatever reason, leaves me paying (waaaaaay too much already) for local channels I can get (in HD, I might add) for the one-time price of an antenna that is less than half my monthly DTV bill which I'll never have to pay again.
USA, Discovery/Hist, SyFy, AMC, TNT, and Comedy Central are the only other channels I watch, and all shows on those I can get in HD via cable or on the net for free. There is NO WAY I will be a DTV customer on November 2nd if these channels are gone, and I really do not care why.
Since this mess has now got me thinking about how nice an extra $87 a month would be, I might not continue even if they are.

Welcome to the brand new members chiming in about dropping DirecTV. How much does that pay exactly?
