I agree about the last contestant, although from a different point of view. I'm not a fan of that type of music, so I acknowledge his talent but have no interest in actually listening to him. However, I smelled a relapse coming on, too. A lot of pressure is going to be hoisted onto those shoulders.

I was in London a few years back and actually watched an episode of THE X FACTOR...and they used the same cheesy background music and editing for "emotional" moments. That was my biggest complaint about the first episode - knock it off with the editing and ESPECIALLY the background music...this isn't a soap opera!

Otherwise, I agree with most...it's nice to have Simon back (and you too, Paula).

Bring back Cheryl Cole.

What were The Sonnets singing?
"What the hell is going on?"--I laughed at that! At least the way they edited it is comical, but the fact that we only heard the one line makes me think perhaps it could have been a great song. Simon's comment about it sounding like music he hears getting a massage says to me he simply hates anything that isn't runaway pop hit material.

Were they confused when they saw Nicole Scherzinger and thought they were going on "The Sing-Off"?

They should just have 3 judges--get rid of Nicole, and it'll practically be like American Idol used to be.

I hate all the audience screaming during the audition.

- Siameze looks like he could be a klingon. A 5-head. Prince wannabe.
- Watching an old lady in mortician makeup is painful. The singing was worse.
- I have no idea why we got to see the dangling particle man.
- I also didn't need to hear Nicole's mutilation of Mariah's "Emotion"
- I liked the "rehab rapper". He had true hip hop flavor. And he had a voice too. Sing-songy rap. Kind of reminded me of Bone Thugs and Harmony.

IMO, AI is a much more accessable show. Looks like ratings were on par with initial ratings for The Voice, and nowhere near AI.

+1. I don't get the point of having auditions in front of a huge, screaming audience that's pumped up on the same stuff they give to the audiences of America's Got Talent. It gives me a headache after a while. I might give it another chance tonite, as I bailed out pretty early on premiere. Plus the host seemed like he was yelling everything.

Yeah, as I mentioned earlier this is too much like America's Got Talent, mostly becuse of the screaming/yelling audience but also because the sound of the audience seems too far away from the stage. Same with judges they seem too far from the stage.

I like the Idol auditions much more than this.

You have to keep in mind though that Simon has to make this show different and it can't be a copycat of American Idol. The stage and large crowd didn't bother me as this show needs to establish it's own identity compared to Idol, The Sing-Off and now The Voice.

Also, I kind of liked the host Steve Jones. He did his job being a host and not making things/segments about him like Seacrest tends to do.

One thing I would like to point out and Idol tends to do this sometimes is the editing in the LA auditions actually jumped back and forth from Day 1 to Day 2 while the segment was still technically Day 1. I noticed the clothes of the judges change a few times.

I know alot of you weren't fans of Nicole, but I think part of her roughness was being thrown in at the last minute to replace Cheryl Cole. Nicole was actually hired to be the 2nd host of the show and I have a feeling the LA auditions were really chopped up to accomodate editing out any segments she was in. Never saw The Sing-Off, but I'm willing to give her time to get comfortable here.

I can't believe anyone actually liked that douchy Elvis wannabe. That was utterly horrible.

I noticed clothing changes too, specifically the shoes of the two woman judhpges. They seemed to change from one moment to the next.

Tonight, the last woman was too good. She almost seemed like a ringer.
She was the best singer I think I have heard throughout All the Idol auditions.

I think at one point last night, Nicole was sitting in Paula's seat judging and the next audition, they were back to the LA/Nicole/Paula/Simon one.

The pacing of the auditions is off. Too much of one audition and not enough of others. It felt rushed but also dragged at the same time.

The better the sob story, the better your chance at getting through to the next round. This show is embarrassing to watch.

I actually thought he sang better than half of whatever they passed through. He was both a bitchy diva and a bundle of nerves. The false bravado was painful to watch as he turned into a blubbering mess. He would have been a hot mess and great for the show. Too bad he didn't get through.

The editing in hour 1 was fucking terrible. So many continuity errors with Simon's shirts. It kept jumping back and forth from white T-Shirt to Grey Shirt and that session was supposedly from the same day?

Out of everyone in hour 1, Melanie Amaro was fucking amazing. I would be shocked if she wasn't a top 5 contender. She really did that song justice.

rotfl at the guy in hour 2 during the Dallas auditions who sounded like an Australian aboriginal Pipe.

Okay, I'll be the 1st to say it, the whole "Ghost" segment they concocted from that one audition was soooooo fucking brutal. Flickering the lights and having Nicole "act" like she's scared. -ohbfrank- C'mon...Did Simon really think that segment was good TV?

 at the whole bitch fest with Simon and Xander Alexander. It was entertaining, but that guy was a little shit. I'm glad Simon put him in place.

You mean the Rugby coach? No way was she the best of the night. Amaro had her beat hands down.

 at that absolutely ridiculous audition with that guy Dylan from Kentucky who sold his truck to get there. I thought he was having a seizure.

It was FOX and Simon's choice. They got feedback that some people had trouble understanding her because of her thick accent and that she didn't have good chemistry with L.A. and Paula.

Much better at what, saying things like, "You just arent ready", "I think you are the reason why we do these shows" and the awesome, "I vote Yes".

I'm with L.A. Melanie Amarro kicked all kinds of "bootay". Just close your eyes and listen. As she went for the high notes, she didn't sound shrill or screaming.. just powerful. Amazing. I'm going on record now that I will watch every episode of this show to see her sing. I'm always amazed how someone like this comes along, but wasn't on AI (she's been eligible for 2 years). She honestly sounded better to me than the Sunshine Carazon character on Glee. First recording of the season I've saved.

Seriously, if you guys can't hear that, you need new speakers or ears.

Bump

I know most of you are starting to get backed up, but there are 2 more hours tonight. Auditions are in New York and New Jersey.

Tomorrow is the last auditions episode.

Re: The X Factor -- New Singing Competition -- The Auditions Thread -- Premieres 9/21

If the show fails, the producers and Simon are to blame. This second audition was IMO so much better than the premiere episode. The singers and song length was MUCH better and better edited. Last week, the singers sang on and on and on or were too short. Tonight, the singer was about the right length. There was also a larger variety/types of singers. The stories were better and the bad singers were bad and short. THIS should have been the premiere episode as Cheryl was still on the panel so there was no excuse to go with the LA episode which was completely disjointed. X

Re: the last singer on the 9/28 show. I find it beyond hilarious that both Paula and Nicole turned her down because of her vocals. Where both have been more visual artists. At least Nicole can actually sing. Paula? Hardly. In the end, Nicole caved and told the contestant that she needed to brush up on her vocals. But Paula continued being such a hard ass. And seemed pissed off the others let her through the next round. Hey Paula, let's see YOU try to sing without any back up music tracks. Yeah, didn't think so.
