On second thought, I totally agree with the OP.

What the world needs now are a whole bunch of Jackass Channels.

Think of how our society could be improved if we just had a few more vomit omelets.

I'm glad I've won you over however, as a strict vegan, I'm afraid I can't endorse any type of omelet - vomit or otherwise.

When the Tipper Gore Parental Advisory Warning label came about in the '90s I'm surprised that somebody didn't start a chain that only sold CDs (and now DVD's) that had a warning label/R/TV-MA rating.
I'm not. Stores usually like to make money, and limiting your potential products like that would be suicide.

I hear what you're saying but I wasn't thinking 'limiting' as in a pre-existing store sending back all their G and PG type fare but an entirely new chain devoted to programming for adults to carve out a market segment.

Kinda like porn stores wouldn't sell bibles and a Christian bookstore wouldn't sell Penthouse.

Drinking in films encouraging kids to drink:says BMJ

The British Medical Journal did the study. On the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's morning news just now the reporter said that this could be the start of limiting drinking in movies like they did with smoking.

I know it's for movies but I can't see why this couldn't affect TV as well...

One of the comments in the article echos this:

The BBC made Sherlock Holmes into a non smoker what next Rebus as a orange juice drinker more left wing nonsense.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/ar...g-alcohol.html

I just wish he wouldn't have brought politics into this since there are plenty of prudes on both sides of the political spectrum.

And the gentrification continues...

But it still seems sort of arbitrary. What if a David Lynch fan comes in looking to get all his movies, you would have to send him somewhere else for The Straight Story and The Elephant Man. And there are plenty of bands that have some discs with warnings, but not others. But it's like like the unlabeled discs are suddenly kids discs.

It just seems like such a store would have a hard time making it clear what they did and didn't have. Rather than go and chance that your store might have The original Star Wars trilogy and not just Revenge of the Sith, I would probably just go somewhere I knew I could get the movies I wanted.

It's all about context.

I voted no. While I don't think we need more vulgar content, we do need to place it in context. Sometimes a situation paired with an intended audience can benefit from more explicit content, but to put it in just for the sake of vulgarity is childish.

If vulgar you mean of the quality of Curb Your Enthusiasm, then I say yes. If vulgar you mean of the quality of Jersey Shore, then I say no.

Funny you mention Curb since in post two I cited a Youtube link to the "Big Vagina" scene in CYE as a prime example

However I'd contend even trash like Jersey Shore does help to cast the net wider for what's allowed on TV so even if most of it is trash the quality stuff like Curb will benefit from the spin-off of the expansion of what's allowed.

I tended to see it as a firm divider for what the store and it's customers are all about and not *just* about the content per se. Like, for example, if they tossed in a licensed bar as part of it selling coffee and drinks. Sorta an adult place to go to socialize with other adults without having to worry about someone's rug rats floating around to pick up something G rated.

Re: We need more vulgar TV (OTA/Basic cable)

Was there a thread about how cable has now strayed from its porn or softcore roots and the USA network had a lot of softcore porn type programming and Rhonda Sheer a while back or is this that thread?

I guess when cable started producing quality shows in the mid 2000's that era disappeared.

I think you can only watch softcore porn on HBO Zone late at night and maybe HDNET.

Well I'd say that porn on Showtime or HBO etc would certainly have a place on cable but I was thinking more risque programming that isn't porn per se but also isn't gore/violence like Dexter or Breaking Bad etc.

I guess some examples of what's out there would be that Dave Attell making fun of old porn movies on Showtime or this scene from Curb Your Enthusiasm I linked as an example in the second post:

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/sGjElvt4nP8?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I've gone OTA because of how bland cable became and grab the little good stuff like Curb, Californication and Louie etc on disc.

It just seemed like cable was mostly filled with repeats of shows I could DVR on OTA anyways (Law and Order so it's not like OTA is better but at least I'm not paying for it) or cooking shows or shows on TLC about midgets or whatever.

Even Dream On from HBO years ago was more risque that a lot of stuff on cable today.
