We need more vulgar TV (OTA/Basic cable)

I got the idea from the Two and a Half Men thread.

Vulgar TV is doing well enough on the premium channels but would you watch OTA/Basic cable more if it was more obscene?

I'm voting yes.

Yes if by vulgar you mean more sexual stuff. No if by vulgar you mean more farting, shit or general gross stuff. I need more vulgar adult TV and less vulgar childish TV.

I don't care if it is vulgar or clean. Just make it funny.

Where would you place Big Vagina in that?

No, what are you, twelve?

Also, don't you like Two and a Half Men? We don't need more of that shit.

It's alright but could be more obscene.

We don't need more of that shit.
Thanks for deciding for me what I should be able to buy.

If it's contained in garbage like Two and a Half Men, then I don't see the point.

Quality comedy wise Two and an Half Men isn't the best example. The Curb Your Enthusiasm clip in my second post is.

then I don't see the point.
For either Curb or 2 1/2 Men either way it helps to oppose and ideally reverse puritanism in society.

And, yes, in addition to funny shit I also have a sociological agenda for supporting this.

Good start. I'd also add getting rid of that mouth blur when someone says fuck.

Re: We need more vulgar TV (OTA/Basic cable)

Basic cable is plenty vulgar when it needs to be, one of the problems with Two and a Half Men is it is allowed to be blunt with what it says which takes all the fun and funny out of it. Suggestion, or letting the audience figure out the joke on their own, is part of what makes comedy great to me.

Also Comedy Central is on basic cable here, and they get away with a lot. Broadcast shows have to appeal to the greatest possible audience, additional vulgarity isn't going to help that.

That said I'm against blurring or bleeping, I think it's stupid, in this day and age are we really that offended by a nipple?

If vulgar was equivalent to funny, then Kevin Smith would be the funniest man alive.

I'll take witty and intelligent over vulgar any day.

I don't care either way about blurring, but I think bleeping makes things funnier more often than not.

Re: We need more vulgar TV (OTA/Basic cable)

In the 1980s a few independent stations ran the comedy show "Bizarre" which was made for Showtime- it had frequent profanity and nudity. Of course, some people complained about it. Even more obscure was a syndicated cop show called "The Street" that had uncensored profanity, it was usually run late at night.

What I find terribly unfunny is when shows obviously WANT to use profanity, but are told they CAN'T so they obviously tone it down. I mean, that's just flippin' stupid!

I canned cable because it was bland like OTA - just more of it and get the cable stuff I want on disc.

I've always been on the fence about Mad Men but passed on buying the sets. If they blurred the tits for AMC and did an uncensored DVD or shot tit filled alt scenes they would have had my DVD cash.

Agreed funny needs to be there but we're at over 40% of ppl voting yes.

If the industry or even a studio could mount productions and translate that into content buyers that'd be a lot of cash coming in.
