Big for Margo winning; I wish I'd seen her acceptance speech.

I didn't watch Friday Night Lights, but I just can't imagine a better performance than what Jon Hamm gave us last season. Of course, the award is based on one episode, so whatever.

I'd love to see Margo Martindale and Jeremy Davies win for Justified.

*Wishful thinking, I know.
Well, 5 out of 14 ain't bad, right? That's batting .357, I'd be an all-star.

Alas, for the night, I'm just glad Glee didn't win.

This was only the 2nd and 3rd Emmy Friday Night Lights ever won. It won an Emmy for casting in 2007.

I know not everyone likes the show, but the people who have watched it like myself are passionate about it. There is a reason why it stayed on the air 5 seasons with shit ratings when it should have been cancelled after season 2 (if it was only based on ratings) It's a well written family drama with 2 smart adult lead characters (Chandler and Britton) TV critics liked it and the network executives at Directv and NBC liked it and the rest is history.

I'm a big fan of Mad Men as well and yeah "The Suitcase" was a damn good hour of TV, but I'm glad Friday Night Lights finally got some recognition for it's final season. Jason Katims is one of the best TV showrunners and wrote a damn good finale.

Like I said in my earlier post, I can't get too worked up about FNL winning the best writing award. Sure, I think the Suitcase probably deserved it, but the FNL finale was pretty good too, and FNL had really ever won awards of note. Besides, Weiner has won that award before, and he'll probably win it again.

That having been said, Jon Hamm has never won an Emmy either, so his not winning for the Suitcase I have more a problem* with. And I say that as a Kyle Chandler fan. Minka Kelly was really happy though.

*I don't take these awards all that seriously so problem is relative.

I was trying to remember who Minka Kelly was when she came out to present. After googling and coming up with FNL, I remembered the Derek Jeter thread.

I will admit that I never watched Friday Night Lights because it looked like a CW show -- a bunch of beautiful people whining about their boyfriends/girlfriends with some football as the background. "Gary from Early Edition" is thrown in to keep it all together. Meh.

I assume it's more than that?

Yes, it's a lot more than that. That's a really narrow minded assumption. It takes place in a small town in Texas. It isn't about rich kids using cell phones and talking about frivilous shit. Very realistic portrayal of small town life and how football brings the community together. It's also about a family (The Taylors) who are the central characters of the show. Some of the characters on the show are actually poor and struggling to survive.

Let me put it to you this way. The show is loosely based on the story of the 1988 Permian Panthers High School team from Texas, which was the story of the feature film. If that story or the feature film didn't interest you, then you probably won't care for the show. But, don't automatically write it off as some frivilous cheese ball fluff.

Jon Hamm was robbed. At least Mad Men won best dramatic show again so we didn't have to see more Friday Night Lights.

Increasingly, I tend to find a certain segment of one show's fan-base consistently wanting to hassle the other. A bit infantile, but you're of course free to assume anything you'd like. I'd say many of us enjoy both.

Having said that, I'd still agree with Arpeggi. Season 4 of Mad Men was one of its creative best. The episode submitted (The Suitcase), merely the apex of said season.

As much as I like the show, I call it a "very realistic look at the way high school football in Texas is an unhealthy obsession and mixing it with an over dependency on religion among the community where all the adults pin all the wasted hopes and dreams they couldn't make for themselves because of their stupidity instead now put them on their children making sure they're going to be as screwed up as well."

And that's how I felt when the show first started. Thankfully it did turn a lot of that thinking around with good story material. However, its still always been there bubbling beneath the surface.

Those of us who look at the show (and its creator/EP) as the reason Frank Darabount got fired from Walking Dead and find ourselves very scared that this new season's going to tank without him.

All because Mad Men wanted ALL of the money.

My wife and I just started watching the show a couple of months ago. It's excellent. Glad Chandler got the statue.

I'm not a Mad Men hater. I don't hate anything that is subjective. But I watched the first 6 episodes of season 1, and it was 6 of the most boring hours of TV i ever watched. Apparently I just don't get it. Does it get better?

FNL is a very good show, but not Emmy worthy. That said, Kyle Chandler deserves it for the entire series. The guy is a solid actor.

Well, I was a Rubicon fan, so if you think you've got it rough, at least keep in mind that the show you like is still on the air.

The first season of Walking Dead wasn't that great (particularly in the writing), so maybe the show will improve as a result of Darabont's departure.

Still, nice to see Modern Family win over Glee and The Big Bang Theory, even if Season Two was a bit lackluster at times.

I'm surprised Carrell didn't win for Outstanding Lead in a Comedy Series, just as sendoff for him and his character. And if not him it should have been Louis CK. But in no case should someone have The Big Bang Theory have won; that show is garbage.
I haven't seen Modern Family, so I can't compare to it specifically, but Parks and Rec is the funniest show that I watch.

And you're crazy, Marge. Big Bang is hilarious too. :P

Amen! I don't watch a lot of the shows that were nominated, so I don't really know who deserves the awards, but as entertainment, I though the show itself was a total flop. The whole thing was sloppy, lots of awkward pauses and most of the jokes failed.

Steve Carell losing the Emmy for The Office five times will be looked back on as one of the huge travesties of the Emmys.

I admit I rarely watch the Emmys so I don't have a good frame of reference (I watch the Oscars and Tonys more often than the Emmys), but I thought the show was really lame. The Amy Poehler/Best Actress thing was very funny, though (I'll assume the producers deserve no credit).

What's funny about that? I didn't watch GoT, but Boardwalk Empire was not very good at all. The production design was exemplary but everything else was, to my mind, mediocre.

Yep, Empire's one of those shows that looks better than it actually is.
