Hell's Kitchen -- The 9th season Thread -- Premieres 7/18/11 on FOX

By djariya at 2011-07-18
Eighteen new aspiring chefs dare to brave the heat of competition when Chef Gordon Ramsay opens the doors to a new season of HELL'S KITCHEN. The chefs must prove they have the skill, passion and dedication as they compete for the grand prize of a Head Chef position at BLT Steak in New York City. In the first team challenge of the season, Chef Ramsay asks the contestants to prepare their signature dish and splits the chefs into two teams: men vs. women. The winning team gets a taste of the sweet life when they wine and dine with Season Eight winner Nona Sivley at L.A. Market, while the losing team is left behind to scrub down the kitchen in preparation for their first dinner service. Following a sobering announcement moments before the grand reopening of HELL'S KITCHEN, tempers flare when the teams struggle to communicate effectively and the slow service forces diners to walk out before their entrees are served. Find out which contestant gets burned following the most disappointing opening dinner service in the "18 Chefs Compete" season premiere episode of HELL'S KITCHEN airing Monday, July 18 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (HK-901) (TV-14 D, L)

FWIW, there is actually 5 hours of Gordon Ramsay every week.
Hell's Kitchen and MasterChef are on back to back Mondays and Tuesdays. On BBC America, the 2nd season of Gordon's Great Escapes just premiered last week. He's visiting Southeast Asia.

Time to decide who looks like they can actually cook, and who looks like they're right out of Central Casting.
Mind you, these votes are supposed to be BEFORE the show airs. :-)

I'm in... as always. I love when Ramsay calls them "muppets" or "donkeys".

This chicken is raw! You're going to kill somebody!
Get out!!
I skipped last season, so I'm looking forward to this.

You picked the right season to skip. Season 8 was awful and pretty much noone in this forum cared about it, especially since it aired in the Fall so soon after season 7 wrapped.

I can't get enough of Ramsey, though, so I'm in for the season as always. I'm sure I'll complain; but I'll secretly enjoy the bad signature dishes, the undercooked scallops, the raging egos and the most dramatic episode ever.

No eye candy this season, surprising. Thats reality television 101. Always put some hotties in the cast for creeps like me to drool over.

You'd think after 9 seasons, some of these people would figure out Ramsay has at least 3 dishes that appear every season:
1) Risotto
2) Scallops
3) Beef wellington
Learn how to make these and you might survive the first day.

That was awesome. Typical premiere for Hell's Kitchen. Shitty opening night of service with nothing coming out.
The opening where the contestants thought they were going to be introduced to a large audience was hilarious.
at the guys being star struck by Nona and especially seeing her made up as well.
Unbelievable how noone who starts out on this show can cook risotto or Scallops. The Blue team was awful. I'm actually surprised that Monterray stuck around since he didn't do shit.
I think Steven got the boot because he tried to justify his "Springy" scallops as good.
I'll be the 1st to say it, James sucks. I wish Jean-Philipppe was still on the show. He was a little weird and eccentric at times, but at least he showed some personality.

Loved it! Undercooked scallops, burnt potatoes, mushy risotto. It seemed like half the guys got benched.
My favorite moment: When Gordon showed the guys the huge pile of dirty pots & pans, and told them that no entrees had gone out and all the customers were walking out. Gordon: "What are you going to do?!" Chef: "I'll wash the pans."
Next week: one of the chefs does something shocking! on an explosive! episode!
I'm good at making "springy" food, too.

Oh Hell's Kitchen.. Can be so cheesy, over dramatic but I love it. Not sure why I always watch it as every season is pretty much exactly the same, but when its on I'm always glued to the tv.

Having said that Elise needs to go home but she'll probably win. No check that the winner this season is going to be a guy if they follow the formula.

When my gf and I watched the opening credits, I said Stephen would go home just based on how he looked.
Another lot of unlikeables... but how could I not keep watching? I only care to see these people berated, humiliated and abused.

Not that any of you would relive it, but all the previous 8 seasons of Hell's Kitchen are now available on Hulu and Hulu Plus.

Yeah I didn't get what the fat bearded guys deal was. He barely walked into the kitchen to prep and started hyper-ventalating and then he was done.
All that really does for now is one of the future episodes will be non-elimination to compensate for his loss.
