Yet if all goes according to plan, Spader’s character — named “Robert California” — will be introduced in the premiere as the new Office manager. He quickly decides the role is too small for him, and somehow talks corporate into appointing him as its new CEO.

Brilliant! "He creeps me out, but I think he might be a genius."

Interesting. Might be a cool dynamic if he's in the mix regularly.

and a somewhat creepy sexual vibe
James Spader?

yes, I can see that.

Of all them in the finale, Spader was really the only one with a realistic shot at the spot. It certainly wasn't going to be Ray Romano or Jim Carrey, and the British chick was just too big a gamble.

I guess I'm the only one who didn't find Spader funny at all.

Not impressed. It should have been an internal promotion. The show doesn't need a "Steve Carrell" as boss to succeed.

Same here on both posts. I watched the episode again after reading all the praise for Spader in the show thread. I guess I just don't get him.

I thought Spader was brilliant in that episode. If he can maintain that vibe on a weekly basis, I'm for it.

I didn't find Spader funny at all either. He was good for a quick appearance, but I can't see how that would work for multiple episodes.

I love Spader. He's an actor who consistently makes interesting choices, and is as good at comedy as he is at drama. Bring it on!

Spader really shined in that episode. I definitely look forward to the tension, confusion and chaos he will create.

Perfect choice based on what we were shown in the finale.

I liked Spader on the show but that limited screen time was about all I could handle of him. I hope they go with Andy as the boss.

Did you read the article? It sounds like they are going to move Spader to CEO which would still leave room to promote someone to office manager from within.

His interaction with Dwight was proof enough he was the go-to guy.

That's a fantastic scenario. Talk about a time-waster.

I did, but he's obviously the replacement for Carrell. He's still the "name" they are attaching to the show. I'm saying they don't need a "name". Hell, Ed Helms is definitely a hotter Hollywood start these days.

They didn't need to bring anyone else in. And I was one of the ones who thought Spader was okay as a one-off character in the finale, but that's all I can take.
