Yeah for a second I thought Spader was Christopher Walken with that hair.

I didn't get the Finger Lakes thing and why it was funny. I think I missed a few lines of dialogue setting up Carrey's cameo...

When they were going over interview candidates with JO, they mentioned that there was this guy who was really concerned with vacation time, and asked about it a lot. Said he had a vacation planned in the Finger Lakes.

Apparently Ricky Gervais didn't care for the finale either...

He just refuted that on his blog:

What's wrong with that?

The bit about it "jumping the shark" and being like Chris Martin in Extras was meant to be a little self deprecating in-joke. I myself, did a fun but pointless, over-hyped cameo in the episode too remember. I did it for a laugh like everyone else, I assume.

I certainly wasn't dissing anyone involved more than myself.

The US version of The Office has probably made me ten times the money that the UK version did. I wouldn't knock it. It's still my show. All I said was I do it for different reasons. That is simply what they call the truth. Hope that's OK. I believe I am still entitled to an honest opinion. After all, every other **** is.

I also love how people have confused interviewing for Michael Scott's job, with auditioning for Steve Carell's job. Ha ha. Amazing.

Still, mustn't grumble.

A good season finale propels you into next season with a twist, or reveal etc. This episode fell flat by not changing the status quo. There is still no Regional Manager, and no indication if they are close to getting one. Are they going to continue interviewing next season? What they should have done is have Jim on the phone at the end saying "the job is yours if you want it", or have him pick up a resume and say "I'm telling Jo this is who we should go with." THAT is a cliffhanger. So, no, this was not a good season finale.

I don't subscribe to the "finale has to be a cliffhanger" theory. Not every show needs one. With Michael proposing and subsequent departure and a parade of guest stars in the final episodes, they didn't need a cliffhanger. There were enough ups and downs as it was. Also, realistically, a company like this would probably have more than a day of interviews.

I'd like the next season to open with the manager already in place and operating normally. The Office tends to skip a few months in their reality between seasons anyway, don't they?

Creed as manager and James Spader were the highlights of the finale. I'd definitely watch next season if Spader got hired, but I don't see that happening.

It seems like the love for Spader is almost universal. He was definitely the highlight of the show for me.

I think they missed a great opportunity. They should have had Richard Belzer as Det. Munch interview for the job. He could have been looking to make a career change.

I was hoping to see Waylan Smithers interview, personally. An animated character on a sitcom would be groundbreaking.

I think Gervais' comment "I also love how people have confused interviewing for Michael Scott's job, with auditioning for Steve Carell's job. Ha ha. Amazing." sounds like he's talking to people in this thread in the sense that they aren't getting someone new.

Hey, at least she's hot.
And you never heard anyone being called "Assistant to the Regional Manager on the show before?
