Should be a good one. I'm excited to see Jim Carrey but I am not a fan of Ray Romano.

I don't think any of the guest stars end up with the job... I actually think it'll be Darryl. I just hope it isn't Gabe. In fact I'm hoping that Gabe goes crazy this episode and we never see him again.

I have a feeling that nothing will be decided tonight. It will probably end of a cliffhanger going into next season.

The actors have said they don't know who the boss will be next season.

Of the non-Office actors interviewing for manager, she seems the most likely choice since all of the others would either cost too much or have commitments for shows in the fall. Which is fine by me because I'd like to see her in the role and think she could do a good job with it.

That would make it an even tougher competition for Best Redhead at the Dundies.

THAT would most certainly bring me back next season! With her as the boss ... Am I bovered? Certainly NOT! ;)

That's what I think as well. Seems like more of a publicity stunt for ratings.

I saw this the other day, and meant to post this.

Big spoiler regarding the new boss

Spoiler:
New 'Office' Boss Won't Be Revealed Until Next Season

Fans of "The Office" will have to wait until next season to find out who'll be riding herd at Dunder Mifflin.

"There will definitely be a new boss in 'The Office' come fall, but we won't be revealing that until after the season," Bob Greenblatt, NBC's freshly minted entertainment president, said during the network's upfront presentation at the Hilton Hotel in mid-town Manhattan on Monday.

The upcoming finale features James Spader, Ray Romano and Ricky Gervais, but it won't revealed yet if they'll be stepping into Steve Carell's shoes until the fall.

In other Thursday night comedy block news, "30 Rock" may be getting pushed to mid-season, because of Tina Fey's pregnancy. However, that doesn't mean fans of the sitcom will have to suffer through an abbreviated season.

The show is being picked for a full 22 episodes, Greenblatt said.

Greenblatt also revealed the network's contingency plans if the NFL lockout drags into the fall. The network executive said NBC would air "larger than life" game shows in lieu of "Sunday Night Football."

Re: The Office -- 1 Hour Season Finale -- "Search Committee" -- 5/19/11

Okay, so at the halfway point, I think it's been a bit uneven thus far. I appreciate them giving us a look at the hiring of a new manager, which was a good idea, but I'm not sure how it's actually working. The guest stars have been decently funny (Spader was hilarious), but no one seems to have been an actual contender; either they come off as totally incompetent or downright crazy and I think they should have struck a balance between actual candidates and "joke" candidates.

The Cold Opening with Creed as the manager was great. Loved that he called a meeting without telling anyone, and he was naming people we've never heard of; I would expect no less from Creed. It's funny to think that Creed has had more screen time in the first twenty-minutes of this episode than he has probably had all season. Love Pam giving him two pictures to keep him busy.

I was a little disappointed with Darryl's interview; it seemed out of character for him to come in there so unprepared, even though he might have felt confident he would get the job. But on the other hand, I guess he really hasn't had a lot of experience in the business world, so it does sort of make sense.

James Spader was crazy. And I really liked Ray Romano getting psyched out by Spader.

Loved Angela's impersonation of Jim; and the recurring joke of the camera always cutting to Oscar after she talks about her Senator boyfriend never gets old.

I felt bad for Andy, but I think he handled himself pretty well despite Gabe's outburst. I would have liked to have seen more of his interview, because he started off with an actual idea.

Gabe: "What are your weaknesses?"
Kelly: "I don't have any asshole." rotfl

Ryan: "How do I know the Senator is gay? Because he liked all of my Facebook photos...at 3:00 in the morning."

WTF @ Ricky Gervais?

I'm a little disappointed that Catherine Tate was so crazy, as I think she would have been a nice replacement if she had played it straight.

Ryan: "Oh no, Stanley, you'll live forever..."

EDIT: I wonder what deleted scenes we'll get, if any, from the interviewees we saw and if we'll see any other interviewees.

Wow, this episode really went off the tracks in the second half hour.

As suspected, the decision will be made next season. Good episode though.

Well Arnet is out, he has a show coming on in the fall.

Re: The Office -- 1 Hour Season Finale -- "Search Committee" -- 5/19/11

The second half was much better than the first, and I think the reason for that is the lack of guest stars. With the exception of James Spader, none of the guest stars were particularly effective and I think it really slowed down the first half-hour. But with the focus in the second half-hour on the employees, I think it worked much better.

The start of it though, with Dwight dressing up as a burn victim was ridiculous and was probably the worst part about this half-hour. On the flipside, I really did like Dwight interviewing himself.

Gabe: "That sounds like a promotion."
Jo: "It's not."

Gabe: "There are plenty of people who love touching me." The look on Ryan's face killed me. Loved Kelly's reaction to hugging him.

I'm glad Phyllis didn't end up being Erin's mom, that would have been a little too coincidental for me.

While I thought the actual interviews of the guest stars was hit-or-miss, I think the parade of candidates at the end was great.

Based on the candidates and Jo's comments, it'll probably either be Catherine Tate or Andy. All of the other candidates we can eliminate either because they're too big of a name (Jim Carrey, James Spader) or because they have shows on in the fall (Will Arnett, Ray Romano). I doubt Ricky Gervais would want to come to the show and they won't promote Dwight again. So that leaves Catherine Tate, Andy, and Darryl. Darryl seems unqualified after what we saw tonight, so that just leaves Tate and Andy.

I actually thought the second half-hour was better than the first. It felt more focused and I think my favorite part of the whole hour tonight was Jim' being totally dumbfounded at how bad the applicants were and totally losing control of the interview process when he talked to the rest of the office.

I just didn't find anything funny, but that's just me.

God I want James Spader to get it. He was amazing. Give the show one more season and let that character have one slow burn from super-confident to batshit crazy.

 I thought he was easily the funniest of the guest stars and he could just sit there in silence and draw constant laughs. He just seems like too big a name to fill the role, but maybe (hopefully) I'll be wrong. Where I think the episode went wrong was having all of the candidates be crazy; they should have struck a balance between unqualified, incompetent, average, weird, and crazy. Spader was insane, but he played it off with such confidence that he could actually be a contender, were it not for his star status.

I loved at the end of his interview when he just looked over at the camera. Like "Oh, look at that."

I love that everyone lumps Spader in the "too big, too busy" group. He's done NOTHING since Boston Legal ended in 2008.

kstublen 05-19-11 09:51 PM

Re: The Office -- 1 Hour Season Finale -- "Search Committee" -- 5/19/11

Spader has two movies in pre-production that are coming out in 2012 and 2013. Maybe that doesn't make him too busy, but regardless I think he's too big of a name for the show to keep permanently. But hey, I hope I'm wrong; he was the best of the guest stars tonight.
