Re: Breaking: Chuck Gets Season 5 Pickup!
This makes me so happy. I realized lately that I would be devastated if the show was canceled now, even though it seemed like the only logical move. Contrary to a lot of people, I've really enjoyed this season. I watch for the comedy more than anything and I feel like the new Casey-Morgan dynamic and the silly Chuck-Sarah lovers' quarrels, supplanting the annoying will they/won't they angst, have really helped in that regard.
It'd be nice if they got a full final season instead of a half-assed order that NBC will probably burn off by December, but I suppose beggars can't be choosers.

For me, it's just that it's a bunch of puzzle pieces that don't snap together anymore.
The Buy More stuff is completely disconnected from everything else that's going on. Instead of a couple of seasoned spies struggling to carry out missions with a clumsy, overeager, hyperintelligent civilian, now Chuck's seemingly incapable of making any mistakes, and Sarah and Casey are kind of just standing around as his cheerleaders. The show keeps dipping into the "oh no, someone else has built an Intersect!" and the "oh no, Chuck has lost the Intersect!" well over and over and over and over and over and over and over again to the point where it's hard to care. Chuck's Intersect flashes almost always seem to revolve around fighting, and that diminishes what makes him special in the first place since Sarah and Casey can already do that. I don't think it's a bad idea that Chuck and Sarah got together, but his whining and insecurity about it is just...ack. "Will you be my girlfriend?" "Yes." "Oooh! We should move in together!" "Oh, I don't..." "...and get married! And have kids! Two boys and two girls. Wait, three boys and two girls." "Can we just go on a second date first?" ::Chuck weeps openly about how he and Sarah aren't on the same page:: My God, as much as I love what Timothy Dalton's doing here, this Volkoff stuff just won't end. Love the character; really tired of everything that's going on around him.
It just feels like a show that's run out of ideas. On the other hand, everytime I think I'm ready to finally give up on Chuck, it gets better again, and I think the past few episodes in particular have been really solid. It's always been an uneven show, but I think it was much more hit than miss in the first two seasons, and now it's the other way around. Just good enough for me to keep tuning in but not appointment television by any stretch.

I agree, that the crux of the problem is that Chuck isn't a bumbling wannabe spy anymore, he's a super-spy that never screws up anymore. That's far more detrimental to the charm of the show than whether Chuck and Sarah are together.
Also as a previous defender of the Buy More stuff, it really is disconnected to the point where it serves no purpose anymore.

I think the show could have been GREAT if they had not killed off Papa Bartowski and made Bakula a regular lead. He had charm, his character was quirky and that quirkyness could have taken over Chuck's early series quirks. Mama Bartowski has been a dud.

I think that it would have been stupid to have Chuck be bumbling as before. He has had the intersect for a while now. He is smart. There is no reason he could not learn to be a good spy.

agreed with you two. He obviously doesn't need to be the bumbling Chuck from the first season, but he currently seems to be at the other end of the spectrum playing James Bond. They need to find a middle ground.
I also miss the non-kung fu flashes. It was far more creative than relying on kung fu to save the day...yet again. lol

I like him as James Bond...he is a very intelligent guy, and no reason he could not be very good after all this training.
He has had non-kung fu flashes, a lot actually.

Fridays huh? Well I guess if something's gonna die there, it might as well be something ending anyway. Hopefully they'll be able to give the show a great send-off.

True enough. At least they were nice enough to let the show wrap instead of just chopping it out of their schedule. Here's hoping the last 13 unleash a rollercoaster ride of adventures and end it with a BANG!

Also, I like that a fan questioned Fedak about about the intersect not being special anymore since just about anyone can have it. He fumbled around a bit before coming up with a halfway decent answer.

If anybody is interested there are a series of video interviews over on Hit Fix by Sepinwall with various cast/crew. He also sat down with Levi at Nerd HQ and there is a lengthy interview there.
re: the Villain from the panel announcement -
I know there has been a lot of speculation over the true fate of Papa B. I wonder if he'll get a chance to come back either through a flashback or 'for real' since Men of a Certain Age was canned.

Re: Breaking: Chuck Gets Season 5 Pickup!
Joshua Gomez had some comments on where he thinks Morgan will be headed in S5. It sounds more actor talk than spoiler so I'll leave the quote open.
However, this does make me recall the plot thread where Chuck was having issues with the Intersect and Pa Bartowski gave him that special watch. However, wasn't that destroyed or taken by Routh's character? Did that entire "reboot" story line take care of that issue or did I forget something?
"There's that whole growing process for Morgan as the intersect, and like what happened with Chuck, we don't know exactly what effect it's going to have. It, obviously, doesn't run and work in everyone's brain the same way. The potential is there for it to go a little haywire. And I'm sure - if I know these writers - I'm in trouble. I think that in true Morgan fashion - and this is a scary thing - I don't think he knows how scary it can be. He's completely gung-ho. It's something he thinks is the coolest thing ever. It's every nerd's dream, ‘I can be a superhero! Chuck, I can do it!' Chuck, meanwhile, is, like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa. Slow down.'"
