She was also on all sorts of 80s soundtracks... she did the title track to "Better Off Dead" (performed in the school dance scene), had a few songs on the Scarface soundtrack (that are probably better remembered as being on the GTAIII soundtrack), as well as Breakfast Club, Summer School, and I'm sure a few others.

Plus she stole "Smelly Cat" from Phoebe on Friends. :)

What's the deal with Kaley Cuoco's sister? I read that he tried out, but I don't remember seeing her? My wife was watching so I was only half paying attention, but I don't recall her.

Just watched the 1st episode. 4 hours per week of this show is very challenging to make time for, especially if you come home from work late & work in the morning. I'll do the best I can keeping up.

Anyways, I thought a few stood out:

Josh Logan

James Wolpert

BTW, the tattoo on Cee Lo's head looks awful. Glad I read that it wasn't permanent.

I'm still trying to figure out why Blake used a steal on the guy from Adam's team.

So I'd say the finalists this year are good, but nobody wows me. I thought Cole was the dark horse, but he went already. At this point I think Jackie will win.

Also, can't believe Blake brought back Xenia the other week. She was so bad. She still has a wispy voice and no confidence. She is very awkward to watch perform.

Haven't watched last night's yet but like how last year panned out with Danielle*, I think Jacquie's been the front runner for weeks now. It'll be just as anti-climatic if she wins, IMO. My wife was in the same boat, but she thinks Tessanne is gonna pull a surprise upset now after the last couple of performances.

I was surprised Matthew went last week. His version of Hallelujah was probably the best performance of the entire season. I was rooting for Kat, but even after just two seasons of watching, it's clear a rocker will never win this show. Gotta pander to Blake's middle America, which brings us to Cole. I think the only reason he made it this far is because of Blake's loyal voters trying to keep Blake in the running.

*Speaking of her CD just came out. Grabbed it for the wife for Christmas. Anyone give it a listen yet?

I think a rocker could win. Terry almost won the other year. I think only reason he lost was he peaked too early.

Unless Adam screws her with a poor song choice, which he is more than capable of doing, I think Tessanne is going to win.

Curious if Blake's team will all be young female country singers next season in response to his early exit. Rooting for Jacquie at this point, and I'd be good with Tessanne winning, but I really hope it's not Will. He just bores me to no end.

I thought the single she released after she was on the show was quite good (even if it was Adele-lite), but she doesn't handle calm songs well and their voices are far too mismatched for a duet like that to work.

Forgot there was a thread on this season or I would have been posting weekly.

I definitely think that this is Jacquie's to lose, but Christina could do that with song choice. Hated the choice of Angel (as well as Adam's Bridge Over Troubled Water for Tessanne). Jacquie has the best set of pipes, IMO. Pulling for her to win...

Looking at itunes this morning, only one of them is in the top 10 right now

Spoiler:
Tessanne is #1

I'm still rooting for Jacqui. Not sure why, but not a big Tessanne fan.

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 5 Thread -- Premieres 9/23/13

I think Tessane may win simply based on yesterday's performance. Which is impressive since I think it was Jaquie's to lose. However, I still don't care for Tessane's work. It's proficient, but she doesn't emote. I think Jacquie was too squeaky in her performance and it will cost her. If anything, I think Will's was the most moving performance of the night.

Jacquie's rendition of Back to Black is reason alone for her to not win. Tessanne gets my vote.

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 5 Thread -- Premieres 9/23/13

It baffles me when people don't hear the emotion in Tessane's songs. That rendition of "Bridge Over Trouble Water" moved me to tears, and her Whitney rendition was the only worthy one I have ever heard. Throwing yourself to your knees doesn't prove emotion. It's choreography. Jaquie is super talented, but she is going through the motions right now. Not the emotions. There is a difference to me. I have enjoyed Tessane, Will and last Jacquie. I hope that is the order tonight.

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 5 Thread -- Premieres 9/23/13

I didn't watch it but I know that Tessanne won. Not a surprise. I agree with magiccmom, it often seemed like Jacquie was going through the motions, but it was because of her young age and also because that is what Christina told her to do. It reminds me of something EW wrote a long time ago when comparing How Do I Live versions from Trisha Yearwood and Leann Rimes. You believed Yearwood's version more because Rimes version felt like she could be singing about a lost puppy. Jacquie is no doubt talented, but doesn't have the experience to put into her songs yet.

The Voice (NBC) -- Season 6 Thread -- Shakira and Usher return

https://scontent-b-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...00668696_n.png

NBC has announced that the Emmy Award-winning musical competition series "The Voice" will launch its sixth season with the return of coaches Shakira, Usher, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton in a special two-night premiere: Monday, Feb. 24 (8-10 p.m. ET/PT) and Tuesday, Feb. 25 (8-9 p.m.). Reprising her role as a coach in season four, Shakira returns to share her expertise. Over the course of her career, Colombian singer-songwriter and Grammy winner Shakira has sold close to 60 million albums worldwide and has won numerous awards, including two Grammys, nine Latin Grammys, four World Music Awards, three American Music Awards and five Billboard Music Awards. Her collaborations with such stars as Beyonce and Alejandro Sanz have helped grow her audience and she is the only artist from South America to have a #1 song in the U.S. Currently working on a new album, Shakira has had four of the 20 top-selling hits of the last decade, more than any other artist. Tops on the list is 2006's "Hips Don't Lie," the biggest-selling single of the 21st century that reached the #1 spot in an astonishing 55 countries.

 to Shakira returning.

This is the last music/talent show I still care about.

I had a tough time keeping up with the Fall season. 27 episodes and it seemed like there was another 2 hour episode every other day.

BTW, Cee Lo Green has officially quit the show. He will not return for season 7 in the Fall. He's going on tour with Lionel Richie this summer and wants to do other things.

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 6 Thread -- Shakira and Usher return

Agree - at times last fall felt like a chore to keep up. I hope they'll weed out some of the melodrama later on, but doubtful.

Kind of indifferent to Cee Lo leaving. He knows how to pick some unique talent that other coaches can't or won't. At the same time he has a way of carrying himself that comes off as awkward and unsettling at times.

I'd like to see Shakira or Usher win to mix things up.

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 6 Thread -- Shakira and Usher return

I wonder if Blake and Adam are going to eventually want to take time off. I know they're probably getting paid very well, but this show is eating up a lot of their year and I'm sure both will want to tour and record again.

I find this show very entertaining during the blind auditions & knockout rounds. But after that it just becomes yet another karaoke show. They really need to find something to make the final stretch more engaging.
