Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
Finally caught up with the last 2 episodes. Bummed out that Patrick got the boot, I enjoyed him. I absolutely adore Sarah Simmons. Could end up being my favorite contestant on one of these singing shows, ever. Her voice is so beautiful, and she connects with her songs and makes me feel them. I'd happily buy an album of hers singing just about anything.

Wow, Brandon Roush got hosed by Shakira's song choice. He did great, but Shawna got blessed with a Janis tune which played right into her wheelhouse. Double bummer since it was cool having someone from Louisville on the show.
*edit - also, for a show with 4 great and fun personalities in the judges, it just highlights what a vapid host Carson Daly is. He adds nothing to the show. |

Did we miss something? Previews had us believe a steal shock. We were thinking coach would attempt self steal.

It's already been known that X-Tina is coming back in the Fall. This story just confirms it. Shakira is leaving after this season. |

I hope they alternate between Fall and Spring.

Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
Well that's a bummer... I'm really liking Shakira and Usher as judges. I already didn't like Xtina much but she really left a bad taste after the way she treated Melanie Martinez last season.
Just watched the results show from last week, finally! Was disappointed to see Caroline Glasser go home. |
Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
This blows chunks. Shakira is delightful and her replacing Christina was awesome.

Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
It's crazy how mature and powerful Danielle's voice is. Amber has less of a lower register to her voice (that Danielle has), but much more pain from losing her mom and living life in general. Danielle hasn't quite got that sort of emotional trauma to draw from, so Amber will edge her out in the angst department. But Danielle's the "natural" of this season, I just don't know if she'll beat Amber or not.

Good News. Shakira will be back after all. She and Usher will return for the Spring edition 2014. Xtina and Cee-Lo will return for this Fall. |

Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
I'm curious what they'll do if Adam or Blake need a break for a season. Would they do some combination of Christina/Cee Lo/Usher/Shakira or bring in more fresh faces?
|
Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
I think they're trying to cover multiple genres. With the number of country singers that try out for the show, I would think that if Blake needed a break, they'd have to find another country vocalist. Same with a pop and/or rock vocalist to replace Adam.

Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
Bummer about Xtina and CeeLo rejoining. I tuned in for the first time this season because of Shakira and she's been delightful (as malichi put it).
As for the show, we're playing catch up. Garret got screwed by Shakira's song choice. Backstreet Boys? Come on. I think this is Danielle's competition to lose. Young, cute as a button, country girl, amazing voice? Total package for a record exec. |
Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
I think Sasha Allen has been my favorite out of the bunch for a few weeks now, but i don't think she will win :(
|
Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
If I had to bet one singer, it'd be Danielle for the win this season. I like Amber too, just don't know if people are voting enough to keep her in the contest. Judith leaves me a little cold, as does Sasha, even with a nice elastic voice. Michelle is the oddball, who knows what fanbase she's uncovered that's keeping her on the show. Sarah's fanbase might be too narrow to get past this week.
|
Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
I agree with Danielle being the current favorite. Young, cute, and has a GREAT voice even for someone much older than her. I didn't watch the first two seasons, but have the finalists ever been nearly all female before? I hope the Swon Brother's can hang in there.
|
Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
Amber's take on Skyfall was jaw dropping. She definitely won the night.
Danielle was amazing yet again. Watching her, I think Danielle's only drawback is her stage presence. She has none. I know that has all to do with her being young and inexperienced, but she stands still a lot. I think the Swon Bros bit off more they could chew with Seven Bridges Road. It was serviceable, but that's one of those songs that if you're off just a little bit, it's going to be noticeable. Not to mention the Eagles' vocals on that are just on another level. My wife thinks they have plateaued while every other artist is still bringing something new every week, which I can see. They might be on the chopping block. I think Sarah is also gone, if only because everyone is sick of that fucking Gotye song. |
Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
Really getting annoyed by the last-minute rushing of final contestant each time. It was bad enough when they had 12 left, but to have 2 hours for eight contestants to perform ONE song each...and then introduce the final singer with only six minutes to go? That's not only disrespectful and unfair, it just points out how much filler goes into the show.
Might as well just watch the recap each week before the cuts are made. You get the entire performances along with most or all of the judge's comments. All that's missing are the group songs (which are sometimes really good), behind-the-scenes coaching (often blah), and the mindless blabber with Interview Chick. Surprised at how well Amber pulled off Skyfall (not my favorite Bond theme)...liked her version better than the original. And she looked stunning. Thought Levine was setting her up for elimination with a too-challenging choice, but she rose to the occasion. Danielle has a great big voice, but she always has that starstruck deer-in-headlights look afterward. Maybe helps her avoid the nerves, but she's almost like a doll programmed to sing and then put away on the curio shelf. Getting harder to cut as weaker performers are jettisoned...depends upon whether people vote for favorites based upon personalities & past performances or base it upon the latest performance. If the latter, it's going to be like an athletic competition based upon missteps on a particular night rather than potential or talent demonstrated previously. Also noted that Carson Daly continues to be all huggy/kissy/touchy-feely with the females & that some seem to pull away. Don't know why he feels that he needs to kiss them each time...it's not so much that it's inappropriately sexual, just that it seems to make some uncomfortable. The judges usually give that lean-away/bend forward hug & back pat that is the standard socially-acceptable thing. Just sayin'. |
Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
Judith Hill's take on "#thatPOWER" just didn't work for me. She did okay on the hook, but the way they rearranged the will.i.am rap section was terrible.
Michelle Chamuel is so much better with these low key songs. Her goofy upbeat pop/rock numbers she did in the beginning like "I Kissed a Girl" never clicked with me... it always felt so false. FWIW, the current iTunes ranking of the contestants is: Spoiler:
|
Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
I dunno, Michelle's take in the Pink song was probably my favorite from her. I just think she's very song dependent. While some can take any song and make it work, it very much depends on the song for her regardless I it's low key or uptempo.

Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
Swon Brothers are very pleasant to listen to. Holly Tucker is average at best. How the both of them beat out both Judith and Sarah is crazy to me. I think Blake has whipped America into a country fest. Sorry, but all the songs sound the same to me. I hope Amber can take the win.
|
Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
A bit of a shocker that Judith is gone, although I thought her last song choice was a bad idea and she seemed a bit aloof so maybe not enough voters were connecting to her. I honestly thought Holly and Sasha were going home, seeing that Holly sort of feels like the odd girl out when going against Danielle the Ingénue and Amber the stylistic Swiss Army Knife. And Sasha I just felt was covering similar ground as Judith, just without as many standout moments.
