She is Shawn Ryan's wife (show creator) so I'd expected to see her eventually.

She actually did do a good job ... her acting has improved radically since The Shield.

It certainly would be a heck of a lot grittier with the language, nudity and voilence, but since this is a character-based cop drama, I think it is just fine without needing any of that.
