Re: Seinfeld vs. Curb Your Enthusiasm
Susie Greene, Crazy Eyes Killa, Funkhouser, Leon, Mocha Joe, Larry's Dad, 'Richard Lewis', Larry's Cousin Andy, 'Ted Danson', 'F*ck Hugh'.
The only supporting characters I dont like is Wanda Sykes (angry black woman theme is old and tired) and post-divorce Cheryl (annoying).

Cousin Andy is great; I'd say though that Krazee Eyez wasn't a cast member, with just the one episode.
I do think the best is Funkhouser, as he works in the straight man role to Larry's hilarity.

Re: Seinfeld vs. Curb Your Enthusiasm
I was just looking for some 'Curb' threads and ran into this one, there is absolutely no way I can vote. I just finished watching Seinfeld the complete series (again) ...due to the poor PQ I watched the entire series on my bedroom TV , most nights I watched one to three episodes and I finished watching the entire series just last night...it went very fast. I have been a die hard 'Curb' fan from the first episode and am way excited for season 8. Both show are spectacular shows! I miss Seinfeld and when Curb is done I will miss it too. There will not likely ever be another show that can live up to Seinfeld and Curb, end of story.

While Curb is hilarious, Seinfeld comes across not only as hilarious, but much more polished to me. In any given episode, I'll laugh again and again during Seinfeld, whereas Curb has funny spurts followed by uncomfortableness. I thoroughly enjoy both, but believe Seinfeld is the winner.

Seinfeld was a scripted show. Curb is improvised except for a story outline.
Curb is intentionally made to be uncomfortable for viewers because Larry David is a sick SOB............and we love him for it.

IMO Curb is more appealing to more mature folks, Seinfeld is pretty easy humor compared to Curb, if Seinfeld would have been an HBO show then Larry & Jerry would have taken advantage of that.

One more little tidbit..... I think both Seinfeld and Curb have way higher replay value then any other television show, EVER. I am hoping both shows get some high def treatment some day.

Was searching for any news about a 9th season of CYE (nothing official yet) when I came across this thread.
Huge fan of both shows. I own all the seasons of both shows, seen every episode of both shows, but I like CYE more. I'd give CYE a 10/10 and Seinfeld a 9.5/10.

Re: Seinfeld vs. Curb Your Enthusiasm
I haven't seen a ton of Curb, but I've seen enough to suggest that the two shows are very comparable to the films Smoke and Blue in the Face. Seinfeld is Smoke, the more tightly constrained and better product. Curb is Blue in the Face, the improvised sometimes momentarily amazing but sort of messy option. I'd say it's personal preference for the most part in terms of what is funnier, but Seinfeld taking the time to have structure makes it the better show in terms of what a show is supposed to be.

Both shows are stone cold classics. I voted for Curb because I like the chances that it takes. The improvisation allows the actors to go to places that scripted TV might not get to mine. And Leon is truly one of the great comedy TV characters.

Re: Seinfeld vs. Curb Your Enthusiasm
I look at it as Seinfeld is the sitcom and Curb Your Enthusiasm is a deconstruction of it. Seinfeld is a collaboration while CYE is pure distilled Larry David's id. Once you are familiar with CYE and learn David's quirks, what bothers him, and how he views other people, then when you go back to Seinfeld you can actually perform a sort of textual/high criticism and understand how much of the show was really Larry David and how much was Jerry Seinfeld and the other writers. Jerry Seinfeld was always a mildly amusing observational comic and the show was intended to illustrate the mundane little things the informed his act. But then you add in Larry David, mostly through the character of George but he is actually ALL the characters, and you get this magnificent obsession over the the mundane. George is probably the most brilliant character in the history of television and the world of Larry David is a dark, dark place. Everyone is an asshole in Larry David's world, starting with him. He's US, if we didn't have empathy. CYE is kind of a Rosetta Stone to unlocking Seinfeld and it helps you to appreciate the underlying theme of Seinfeld.

Seinfeld is one of the very few complete series I own on video. I'll even watch the syndicated shows.
