Anyone going to watch this tonight?

I just subscribed to HBO last night for Game of Thrones in a few weeks and realized that this premieres tonight. Looks great, especially with Winslet as the lead.

2 Parts air tonight, 1 Part airs next Sunday and then it's a 2 Hour Finale on the 10th.

Has anyone here seen the 1945 version of Mildred Pierce with Joan Crawford? Just wondering if this miniseries is supposed to be an update of it.

I've seen it. It's a really good film, but this one is supposed to be much more faithful to the original novel, which I imagine is easier due to the significantly longer length and lack of Hays Code restrictions.

If you can't tell the complete story in 6 hours then it's time to find a new line of work. I think the Hays Code ended in the last 1960s.

Due to an overfull DVR and a packed schedule the next few weeks, I'm taking a pass on this for now. But I'll definitely be checking it out when it's released on DVD.

I thought it started ff slow, but really picked up in the second hour.

Watched the first hour, then had to get to the Shameless and Californications finales. Will catch the 2nd and 3rd hours next week. Slow so far, yes, but that's okay for now. Love the period shit, and I'd watch Kate Winslet read from the phone book, or take a nap, or anything really, so I'm in for the mini-haul.

Can't remember many shows or movies of this caliber where the main character is in every single freaking scene! Impressive work Ms. Winslet, very impressive.

Just finished all 2 hours. That was excellent. Beautifully shot and well-written. Kate Winslet was really good as Mildred. She's one of the few actresses that can pull off playing a character from a period drama. These 2 hours could have actually worked as a self contained 2 hour movie.

I didn't think Hour 1 was slow at all. It did a good job setting up the story and how miserable Mildred's circumstances were after kicking her husband and barely getting by. It was interesting to see how Mildred couldn't stand the idea initially of working for someone and how degrading it made her feel.

at the 1st sex scene with Mildred and Wally. That was so awkward and uncomfortable to watch.

I liked Hour 2 as it moved the story forward and Mildred's growth as a character with her gaining more confidence. I did think the whole whirlwind romance with Guy Pearce's character Monty was a little rushed. I was also surprised at how fast Mildred was able to raise enough money to open her own place.

Also, for those who are wondering. Really beautifully shot sex scene with Winslet and Pearce at around the 1 hr 42 minute mark. Yes, you do she Kate partially nude...breasts included.

That was sad to see the story end with Mildred's daughter Ray dying.

I'm looking forward to the next 3 parts.

So true. I loved the scene where Veda pissed Mildred off and she spanked her. That was awesome.

It was driving me a little crazy how Veda was talking like a stuck up snob, especially calling Mildred "Mother" all the time.
