Re: Will Ferrell to guest star on The Office
ETA: I think my ideal casting would be Ben Affleck as a dickish boss. That would take the show in a new direction.

Re: Will Ferrell to guest star on The Office
I actually thought when they brought Gabe onto the show he would eventually replace Michael as the boss, although he is probably a little too young for the role of branch manager. I guess he isn't that popular, but I think he was a great addition to the cast.
But the opposite direction doesn't necessarily mean a Gabe-type character. Could be someone that takes the job very seriously and is super strict; someone that is a real jerk and takes advantage of others; a touchy-feely sort of person that just wants to be friends; someone who is emotionally unstable; etc.
I think the important thing is that they just don't cast someone who is going to try and imitate Steve Carell as Michael Scott.

Ferrell talks (hopefully jokingly) about becoming full-time replacement for Carell: http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/03/28/wi...ice-full-time/
“Yes, I’m taking over,” Ferrell told EW when asked abut a rumor that he’s going to be Steve Carell’s permanent and full-time replacement. “My character’s name is Deangelo Vickers, he loves the American Southwest, and he’s just kind of in his own way going to step into Michael Scott’s shoes and try to fill them. I’m friends with Steve and a fan of the show, and I just selfishly wanted to do one episode with him, and they pitched multiple ones, and I said, ‘That’d be great.’”
And then the multiple episodes became a regular gig? ”Yeah,” replied Ferrell. “A regular, full-time gig.” One source close to Ferrell added that the actor’s schedule is being cleared to accommodate the show, which will enter its eighth season in September.
Dwigt refutes it: http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/01/31/ra...ll-the-office/
“Will is coming in as a possible boss but everyone knows he is not going to stay because he makes $20 million a film,” Wilson told EW exclusively while walking the red carpet of the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday. “He’s got other fish to fry. He called us up. He called the producers and said ‘I heard Steve’s leaving and I would like to be a part of his exit some how. I’d like to be there for it.’ So they were like, ‘Hell’s yeah!’ I think it will be great because Will’s sense of humor is very much in line with our show’s sense of humor.”
Here's hoping Dwigt is right!

It'd be awesome if he came in and took over full time. Not going to happen, but it'd be cool.
