Fox is a big fan of airing things out of order. Futurama, anyone?
However, people need to recognize that FOX from 2007 until the present is much different from the FOX of the late 90s and early-to-mid 2000s, mostly due to Kevin Reilly becoming President. Which is why I wonder the reasoning behind airing the episodes out of production order; was it executive input or did the show's producers/writers make the decision? |

This has been great every week. Great characters, I really hope this one sticks around.
Really liked this episode as well. |

The voice of Bob sounds a lot like Archer on FX.

Just got around to watching this and thought it was a great episode. I really hope it gets renewed for a second season. Louise is seriously one of the funniest characters on TV now, everything she says or does is hysterical.
I noticed this in the background... http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/3050/37113559.jpg ...and thought it was funny how when Louise was a baby she still had the pink hat but the bunny ears hadn't "grown" yet. |

Re: Bob's Burgers -- "Art Crawl" -- 03/20/11
My God, I love this show. I can't believe they made a plot involving "animal anus paintings" actually work. I love that the only reason Bob embraced the art was to spite Edith.
Louise is still my favorite character, but Bob and Gene are great too. Even Tina has grown on me and provides consistent laughs. The only one that sort of gets on my nerves now and then is Linda, but she's usually alright. This show is definitely an example of starting off rough and improving immensely with each episode. Louise treating those neighborhood kids like hookers was great. --- And now, the obligatory memorable quotes... Bob: "Louise, don't say suck." Louise: "Don't say suck, please." Louise: "Someone's gonna have to lose an ear!" Tina: "I can't, I have glasses." Louise: "What's your excuse?" Gene: "Don't got one, have at it!" Bob: "What are you kids doing?" Louise: "What knife?!" Bob: "You know who loves the crap you kids do?" Tina: "You?" Bob: "No, your mother." Bob: "You can't have a 28-year-old albino friend!" Louise: "What's it going to take to get you into this rhinoceros anus today?" Louise: "Dad, what's that?" Bob: "It's an an...it's an anus. I mean, what has all of this been about?" Gene: "Is dad going to jail?" Tina: "I'll wait for you." Louise: "Word of advice dad, don't tell your cellmate what you're in for." Linda: "How do you know what my underwear looks like? Gene: "How don't I know?! She wears it around the house flaunting it! Like she's all that!" rotfl |

This episode made me laugh out loud more than anything in recent memory. This show is an absolute winner if you ask me. If you aren't a believer, then at least check out this one episode on Hulu...

This episode, along with last week's made me a believer. Very funny episodes. I actually want to watch it again.

Re: Bob's Burgers -- "Art Crawl" -- 03/20/11
Is it just me or does it seem like a lot of the dialog is ad-libbed in this? Some little interactions feel very fluid and funny to the actors.

Re: Bob's Burgers -- "Art Crawl" -- 03/20/11
The show was somewhat slow to grab me, but the last couple especially have been awesome.
Where did you get the money... Shhhh.....It's Art Crawl. Yeah, but where...... Shhhhh, shhhhhhh......Art Crawl. I'm so cold. Cut me open and crawl inside. One of us should live. |

Re: Bob's Burgers -- "Art Crawl" -- 03/20/11
The first season of Home Movies was mostly improvised, but I think after that, and with the move away from Squigglevision, it became more script-oriented.
Based on the way Bob's Burgers is animated, I'm pretty sure it's scripted. But given some of those involved, I'm sure they play a part in the writing process or do a little improv here and there, but I imagine it's minimal. That's just the nature of the animated medium though; it's harder to improv because you have to have the animated character and the voice actor sync up. |
Re: Bob's Burgers -- "Art Crawl" -- 03/20/11
I can't begin to speak towards the animation tools used, but South Park has no issues using their computers to create a show week after week with very little lead times.

That's just the nature of the animated medium though; it's harder to improv because you have to have the animated character and the voice actor sync up. I noticed Bouchard was a consultant on the The Ricky Gervais Show, which (probably Flash) animated the existing podcast audio. Here's an H. Jon quote I found on recording Bob's Burgers: Q: You’re also the lead voice on “Bob’s Burgers;” any difficulty in switching back and forth between Archer, Bob and the other voices you do? Benjamin: They’re stuck with what they get, unfortunately, but it seems to be working. One day I did both on the same day, and “Bob’s Burgers” does six-hour recording sessions, with a lot of improv. I don’t want to sound like an asshole, but that was one rough day; I worked, like, seven hours. I guess I do sound like an asshole. |
Re: Bob's Burgers -- "Art Crawl" -- 03/20/11
I stand corrected. It definitely didn't strike me as a show that lent itself to improv, but it's cool that they use it.
--- On another note, while I really like H. Jon Benjamin and think he's a hilarious guy, he isn't exactly the best voice actor around (not like a Mel Blanc, Billy West, Hank Azaria, or Frank Oz, for example). Most of the characters I've heard him voice (Ben on Dr. Katz, Coach McGuirk on Home Movies, Archer on Archer, and Bob on Bob's Burgers) all sound basically like his speaking voice with only slight variations. That's not to say he isn't great at voicing those characters; in fact, he's perfect and I can't imagine anyone else voicing those characters. But it's just one of those things that annoys me sometimes, when voice actors use their speaking voice to voice multiple characters. |
