Why is the Golf Channel showing Point Break?
Flipping through the channels, I see that the Golf Channel is showing Point Break movie with Keanu and Swayze. I can understand a channel having holiday programming and showing movies in place of shows but can anyone figure out why they would show such an odd choice for an movie.

Why do they call it a "sandwich"? It's not made of sand, and it doesn't contain a witch. What's the deal?

The same reason Cartoon Network shows live action shows, SyFy shows non-scifi/fantasy shows, MTV doesn't show music related shows. Basically every specialty channel is going to become a generic whatever gets ratings channel. I'm sure CNN will be playing Yogi Bear in a few years.

They should be showing Heartbreakers --which seems to be on some cable channel every day.

yeah, ... when I found Point Break on there by chance, I stopped flipping and watched it (again). Hadn't seen it for a while. I was a little surprised to see it on the TGC. But, it did get me to tune in.
I'm an avid Golf Channel viewer and other than the South Africa Open, which is shown Live in the mornings, there isn't much in the way of golf going on now over the holidays. Lots of repeats and other summary shows. Today is it for the South African Open.
The next two weeks look really bleak for viewing golf stuff. I even relegated myself to watching CNN's Special "Downfall: The Tiger Wood Scandal" which CNN aired last night, and which is airing tonight again, if any want to see a summary show of a story that has been beat to death.
TGC doesn't even start showing previews of the upcoming seasons for another week or so.
Can't wait for Kapalua to start up. Only 2.5 weeks now.

Shouldn't they at least be showing Happy Gilmore? Caddyshack? The Legend of Bagger Vance? The Dorf videos?
Maybe they can pick up Caprica and Stargate Universe.

My guess. So many channels are owned by a single entity that when they pay to show a movie/program they spread it around the channels. Golf channel showed Point Break because parent company already paid for it so it was "free" programming, the ad revenue all profit.

Point Break is, of course, awesome. But it is an odd choice. I don't think there's anything to justify it: no golfing, no mention of golf that I can recall. Hell, even something like Gary Busey bashing a dude with a 9-iron would be enough for me.
