Jeez, give them a minute would you? Just because the sherriff didn't rush in that instant, shove the surviving sister to one side and put two rounds in the corpses skull...

I love how everyone complains in these threads because the characters aren't action heroes.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10

I've thought the nitpicking over this show has been really overblown, but I have to admit that roof thing was ridiculous. They set it up like the only options are to jump or face the stairway full of bloodthirsty zombies. Oh my god what happened? Oh, he went down the other, unacknowleged stairway. Horrible.

And I knew something would happen to the sister as soon as they said it was her birthday in a couple days and she was waiting to give the gift to her. Its like the 80s movie cliche where the detective is retiring in two days.

I'm still really enjoying the show though. Can't wait for the next episode.

I enjoyed the episode, but the initial information given about the "Vatos" versus the reveal didn't quite match up.

Not surprisingly, the audience is gravitating towards the Han Solo / Sawyer character (Crossbow Guy aka Merle's Brother).

I hated the vatos stuff. Just a silly stand off, in my opinion. Thankfully, redeemed by an awesome zombie attack.

Jury's still out here. Hes still kind of a racist dick, even if he can handle a crossbow. But we'll see.

I didn't mind the vatos thing. I loved how they turned the whole 'tough hispanic street gang' stereotype to their advantage. Was actually kinda brilliant. I was very relieved at how it turned out.

I don't remember, but has it been stated what causes a person to become a zombie? I know in the source material there was a discovery about that but I don't seem to recall anything about it in the show.

Same. And had they not, folks would've just added that gang to their arsenal of horrible cliches and stereotypes in the writing of the show. I'm under the impression at this point that it really is a no win situation with some people.

I'm some one that hasn't had any issues with the show all season I just thought the vatos twist at the end was somewhat predictable and cheesy, and even worse that they had no qualms getting into a massive shootout with random folks despite having all the old folks they're trying to "protect"

Agreed. Some people just enjoy bitching and being negative.

Maybe I'm just wierd, but if I'm enjoying a story, I usually just let it carry me along, and rarely sit there trying to piece together all the plot twists.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10

I really enjoyed last night's episode. Even though the Vatos angle bothered me at first, I liked the twist and I recognized the relevance of showing how, even during a zombie apocalypse, human conflict is still inevitable.

The only things I didn't like much were the opening scene with the sisters in the boat (obvious exposition just so we feel something after the events later, but I hated the dialogue) and the slow reaction of Ed to the zombie. Sorry, but I can't give him a pass on shock. He had ample time to do something - anything - and he just sat there.

Hard to keep up with who was getting munched on at the end. I agree on the earlier "red shirts" comment. Fantastic FX work, as always. I wish they didn't wait until the end of the episode to blow that load, but it was gory and glorious. The zombie make-up on this show has been exquisite.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10

Someone remind me, was Jim clairvoyant in the comic? I just remember him being a distant, damaged guy who was the only one of the group who got out of downtown Atlanta once things hit the fan there.

I didn't like the vatos story. Why/what was the kid yelling in the ally? And was Rick's big plan to have a mexican standoff...really? I didn't really like the twist either. If they were such nice guys just putting on an act shouldn't a talk with Glenn have diffused the situation?

And what happened to the string of cans and other camp defenses? They mentioned in the previous ep that the walkers were starting to show up, yet dozens of them take the camp completely by surprise.

Bad on Verizon Fios in MA, as well. The close-ups of the sisters on the boat were a noisy mess.

Not that I remember and really I hated his line at the end as it makes people go in a direction that I can't see the show doing at all. Nor should it. It was confusing as hell to me.

Hmm, the wifebeater, the sister, and wasn't there one other guy?

As was suggested up topic, I suspect a certain one-handed individual with a massive grudge was involved.

The cab of the truck is open to the back. My wife suspected the same thing then remembered the cab being open.

The zombies have obviously mated with Ninjas and are a hybrid.

God help the survivors, if the Zomjas/Ninbies introduce Pirate DNA into the mix. Then only robots will be able to stop them.

Didn't the Hispanic leader say that they had run ins with others before? Maybe that's why they reacted like they did. So far, I'm really liking the show. Enjoying the fact that it strays from the comic so those of us who've read it, can still be surprised. Over all great show!

I guess the zombies must have come right up the road, or through some well worn paths, because even without warning systems in place a dozen walkers moving through the wilderness is going to make some noise.

On Amy's death in the comics
Spoiler:
If anything she died quicker. She was dead before the zombie attack was over. Andrea put a bullet through her head almost immediately after the attack. But someone does die slowly after the attack....
Spoiler:
Jim gets bitten during the attack. He is sick the next issue and the group leave him to die near the city limits as he hopes to rejoin his family as a zombie.

Yeah, I guess it's just AMC, because it was bad on Comcast in CT as well. The opening scene definitely stuck out. I was really wishing for better picture. That said, the audio in 5.1 was fantastic. Especially the end.

The one thing that bothered me in this episode was at the beginning when the guys were up on the roof. It seemed like they were forcibly explaining every single move of Merle's, just to satisfy the audience. "He must not have been able to cut the handcuffs because the blade was too dull." "He must have used his belt as a tourniquet - that's why there's not a lot of blood." "He must have burnt his nub with this flame." I dunno, that all just seemed way too forced to me, and I'd be fine leaving those "questions" unanswered.

Other than that, loved it - especially the ending. Very badass.

Thought it was an OK episode, but really dug the ending. I wasn't expecting the sister to get taken out so soon. Glad to see the wife beater gone.

I watch it on Time Warner in L.A. and it looked pretty shit-tastic. I don't remember Mad Men looking like that. What's up with AMC?

2 things that bothered me. The gang attacked the camp survivors first, hitting with bats and all attacking, they were not defending themselves; yet no mention of them starting it.
I was sure we were going to see the Holy Hand Grenade during the standoff, but again it is a no show.

The kid was yelling "Ayudenme! Ayudenme!" Spanish for "Help me! Help me!". So that kind of explains why the gang came in full force.

That doesn't explain why they left him there, although that may be explained by the final resolution.
