I'm curious what the AMC schedule will be like next year. Since Breaking Bad is starting in July, The Walking Dead will probably follow it. Where will Mad Men fall? Breaking Bad seems to be taking its spot next year.

Toy handcuffs usually work that way, but aren't real ones a bit more complicated? As a kid I remember trying to pick a friend's pair the same way and having no luck. Plus, my guess is there weren't any paperclips handy on the roof.

as for the episode, it was good. while light on zombie action, i like the dynamic between the characters. i can understand rick's want to go back for the guns/walkie. everyone he's encountered has had little or no firearms, so he probably would reasonably conclude that firearms are valuable.

quite a few summer shows have a year break in between. i'm sure the ratings will hold, as they've held for 3 episodes already.

That's my lone nitpick about this episode, too.

Everyone seems way too nonchalant about the zombie hordes and the violence inflicted upon the dead and dying zombies (like the group's ho-hum reaction to the dismembering of the zombie corpse last week and then the quickly forgotten bludgeoning of the deer-eating zombie). If this show is going for character study, the creators should watch/read The Road for the way survivors would probably react in event of an apocalypse.

I have not read the whole thread yet but... he was handcuffed to a metal bolt. Hacksaws are designed to cut metal...this is beyond forgiveable for this series. I get that not every detail had to be coverd and he was starting to lose it but come on.

I have the same nitpicks as everyone else. Still enjoy it, but this series is super-nitpickable. I hope Season 2 is thought out a little better.

Why in the world would anyone read more than a few issues of a comic they thought was crap?
Don't lump us all together. I find it perfectly reasonable to give any show with several solid pluses a few episodes before bailing on it.
I enjoyed the "character stuff" more than I expected. The stuff with the wife was fairly decent.

The stereotypes are still horrible, I hope they get away from that or show something different in those characters.

I was ready to give the overall episode a :up: until the ridiculously bad ending. Cringe worthy.

But the combination of the few positives and the lack of other stuff to watch right now gives it another 3 weeks of viewing (while multi-tasking) from me.

Considering the mad zombies at the door and the sunstroke, I don't think it's weird that he might have thought it faster to saw through his arm than metal.

Yeah, that looks to be the case. Not sure how the scheduling will line up (I doubt AMC will pair any shows together). Although it may make sense to pair this with Breaking Bad in an effort to boost its ratings (tragic how low the BB ratings continue to be).

I do like the series but there are a few lapses in judgement that drive me nuts about it. But then again I am not in the situation they are in either so who knows how I would act.

A dull hacksaw won't cut metal... it will cut meat. That situation is plausible, but feels like an excuse unless they showed him trying to cut the pipe first and failing at it.

I wondered why he didn't try kicking the rod that the cuffs were attached to. It appeared pretty rusty, and he didn't look to be a weak person.

Next episodes preview had what looks like our heroes running into a street gang... that wasn't in the comic. I like the deviations; make the show unpredictable.

Forget the zombies, forget life at the camp; what we really needed was an 8 hour episode on watching the guy try and escape the handcuffs. We want him kicking, pulling, picking, sawing, trying to dislocate his thumb, remove his thumb (before then removing his hand) and we'd like to hear him babble to himself exactly what his thoughts are while he suffers from sunstroke. We also want to watch how he gets off the roof.

I'll happily wait for the director's cut where we also watch him peeing off the side of the building.

for the next 8 hour episode I'm voting we watch those gals to laundry. If we don't see them separate the whites and see where they hang stuff to dry I'm quitting this show. Don't get me started on what they're using for detergent as everyone knows how easy it is to obtain lye and rend animal fat. Inexcusable!

She really was, she did not have to be so nasty about it, geez. I am guessing that Shane said Rick was dead because he thought that is what happened? Of course Shane is no saint either for some things he has said, even so she was completely out of line and nasty based on what was going on before rick came back, there are far kinder ways to deal with it. Then Shane has a problem with not waiting to go help others that may be trapped, of course that is a side issue.

Oh that is cheap, I like the know reasons for such things, kind of reads, no idea what write for how it started so I will make up nothing. (I like Kirkman, still that is cheap)

He originally had an idea, but didn't want it to become a series where they were trying to solve a mystery. They did a mini-comic where it was revealed that aliens were behind it (that many people thought was real and wrote in letters about it) even though it was clearly an alternate universe styled joke.

In Y: The Last Man, the series clearly is set towards solving the mystery of the plague so it sorta makes sense, but in Walking Dead it is a moot point. Lets pretend they put in a three panel scene with a generic scientist going "ah-ha! It was a virus from the Amazon!" and then he gets eaten by zombies. How would that knowledge impact our group of survivors who are trapped in an attic of a house surrounded by the undead? How would that knowledge get to them? What would they do with it?

Personally speaking, it was much cooler to pick apart things like the rules from becoming a zombie to how they behave from watching how things unfold. A cool part of the book is that at least 50% of the crap we are told turn out to be wrong (or right for the wrong reasons). That's why I mentioned when we learned to "rules" from the guy with his kid to not take everything he said as scripture. It's like the weeks after 9/11 where truth got so mixed with fear and confusion that everyone who said they "knew" something turned out to be wrong.

*facepalms* I usually don't follow names in Hollywood, so I only just realized that the director Frank Darabont also directed one of my favorite horror movies, The Mist. No wonder I love this show so much. :)

Anyway folks, look on the bright side. With only six episodes, at least the Season 1 box set won't cost a fortune. ;)

It would make sense to not know yet, it would basically have to be a completely different subplot that has nothing to do with the characters. I did think of that when I was typing that out, how many people even know how it started? If the information was never released only a few people may know if they are even alive any longer.

The book does bother me in the sense that there is so much death, not something I am a fan of at all, yet I am some how too curious not to find out what happens.

Y-The Last Man was different in the sense of why it was still alive, he was in the middle of it. I can see how these two stories are very different and how they are never likely to find out the cause. I do wonder how long it will be before the Zombies just die off, can a zombie just die off?


I hated that movie, worst ending I have EVER seen.

They haven't even started writing/production on season 2 yet. This is 100% not being paired with Breaking Bad. Mad Men will still premiere in July or August and season 2 will premiere October 2011.
