Like the show a lot. But as for the quoted above, didn't 28 Days Later either imply or outright state at the end that
Spoiler:
the three survivors were living in that house because it was far enough away from the infected that the infected would starve before they would ever reached the house? There was even a shot showing the infected dying on the road to the house.

Speaking of 28 Days Later...
Spoiler:
This may have been brought up before, but wouldn't the infected die of thirst or exhaustion long before starving to death?

I do like the zombie stuff. And if I have to suffer through the retarded characters and dialog, I have to bring it up to people that seem oblivious to it.

What in particular did you find weak dialogue-wise in this episode? I watch a lot of TV, and am highly critical of writing in particular. Last episode was weak all over the place in terms of dialogue, but I thought the stuff this week was much more balanced and better done in general.

Yep, because the comic book had poor dialog and characters, the show must as well. Which is sort of odd seeing as the show used almost no dialog taken directly from the comic and created mainly new characters that take up the bulk of the dramatic scenes.

Thanks, I can honestly say that I would have been quite oblivious to that aspect of the show had you not mentioned it. It's pretty rare that something that stupid pops in my head.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Tell it to the Frogs" -- 11/14/10

A little slow of an episode for me. Most of the story with the camp could of been done alittle faster. The camp doesnt feel stressfull or a zombie Apocalypse. The mountains do make sense to go but it makes for a more boring enviorment for the show. I loved the stuff from the first epsiode, boarding up the house, keeping lights low, scavaging during the day and then hearing the zombies out side at night. That would make for a much more interesting, tense and suspensiful enviorment for all the camp stuff. It would take the slower scenes from the episode and automatically turn them into a more tense and interesting scene.

The last 10 minutes or so of the episode were great. My problem is just the camp stuff is alittle too slow, no real sense of danger or danger. It feels to removed from the zombie outbreak

I don't find the dialog and characters retarded, even though you brought it up. There are certainly some silly parts, but I find that the case in almost every show.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Tell it to the Frogs" -- 11/14/10

I enjoyed this episode of development, I just wish the season wasn't so short. Lots of great FX work on display last night. Loved the zombie munching on the fresh deer kill. Shane's beatdown on Ed was also a big highlight. And, of course, the battered wife feels bad about it. I thought that angle was a little too over the top, though. Woud he really be like that in front of a big group of women? Seemed a little unlikely to me. Man, Rick's wife is a B-I-T-C-H. I hope she gets eaten.

I don't get why the survivors talk about "going to Atlanta" as if it were far away or something. The place they're hanging out is within the city limits, and you can see the skyscrapers in the background.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Tell it to the Frogs" -- 11/14/10

Didn't realize that Andrew Lincoln was in Love, Actually, ha. He was the guy who was secretly in love with Keira Knightley's character(like who wouldn't be ha), one of the cheesier parts of an already cheesy movie. Still, it's quite a leap from that role to blood covered zombie hunting sheriff.

Also, as far as the criticism goes, I agree with the comments that the writing and characters have generally been weak, though not say, James Cameron Avatar bad, ha. If I had to say one thing was lacking is the general lack of snarky humor that tends to define a lot of zombie movies. No one will confuse this with Shaun of the Dead, both Dawn of the Dead movies, Zombieland, Return of the Living Dead, etc. So instead it sort of feels like a longer, grimmer version of 28 Days Later(i.e. 28 Weeks Later )

That said, the special effects are pretty awesome. I'll likely watch the balance of the series, cause I'm still a sucker for zombies, but probably wouldn't buy it on DVD.

That's cool, I had not heard that yet. I'm optimistic but I hope he had help writing it as comic-book writer to TV can sometimes be bumpy. Brian K. Vaughan & Neil Gaiman made great transitions but Frank Miller did not.

If the writing sucks that episode I'll gladly admit it, but it has to be on the merits of the writing of that one episode.

And for who might want to give the comics a shot (I replied to your post Lemmy in the comic thread), don't get scared off by the opinions that the writing is bad. The comic has won multiple awards from both critics and fans each and every year it has been running. I'm quite sure that those people are still amazed that "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle" got beaten out by Gladiator for best picture in 2000.

I never said weak dialog - those are your words. If you're reading comprehension is this bad, that's probably why you're overlooking the poorer character aspects of the show. Weak dialog is what I said about the comic. About the show, I said "retarded dialog/characters" as in people mostly acting stupid and especially cliched which brings everything down to a remedial level. The problem is basically the story (what little there is) driving the characters instead of what good writers do, which is characters driving the story. But I guess that's just inherent due to the source material, which is pretty lame - at leas the show has some good looking zombies, as opposed to the comic's weak art.

Are you fucking kidding me?

So "retarded dialog" is not analogous to "weak dialog"?

There are comprehension issues at work here, but I don't think its on my side. Course you also couldn't grasp my sarcasm of you watching a show you don't like earlier, so I don't really know what I was expecting out of an actual discussion.

Norman Reedus was in the Pilot of Hawaii Five-O. He played Victor Hesse's brother, who McGarrett killed in the opening segment.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Tell it to the Frogs" -- 11/14/10

There will always be a few people who'll hate the book's writing and art after reading it. Of those people, most will stop reading pretty quickly, though a few will carry onwards. Those facts are as true as is this one:

Those few people will never realize that as a minority, they might be incorrect. They will instead feel that everyone else is in fact wrong, that the awards given and nominated were done in error, and will rationalize it as their opinion is more refined then the rest of the world. They are the superior minority.

They are the kid who believes that the helmet they wear is to keep their super brain safe and since the short bus has fewer kids it must mean they are special for riding it. Bravo, more paste for you.

To be fair, the paste in my school tasted like Root Beer, so it was damn tasty.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Tell it to the Frogs" -- 11/14/10

Man, when the show had one of those 'Due to Violent Content...' warnings I thought we were going to get some sweet zombie action. I did not know the warning was about the can of whoop-ass Shane inflicted on wife-beating Ed. I mean, shit, that beatdown went so overboard I was surprised Ed was alive and Shane hadn't broken his hand afterwards. Also, is it me or does anyone else think that Lori Grimes looks like "Weed's" Nancy Botwin? I mean, seriously, Sarah Wayne Callies has been made to look so much like Mary-Louise Parker it's not even funny... OK, it is.

This show is good and all, but I am a bit surprised at the ratings it's pulling in. Will be curious to see how the 3rd episode did -- the first and second episodes both surpassed Mad Men's average viewership.
