I like Conan and didn't see it before.

I DVR and wait daily. I skip around. Always watch till the interviews at least. It's the only late night show I have interest in.

My damn DVR didn't have this week's Comic Con shows marked as "new".

either did mine and that annoyed me to hell because usually Optimum is damn good with my dvr scheduling, but because i watch Seinfeld on TBS, i saw the promos and thankfully, because they were real good, dvr'd them all.

I'm curious, Why didn't Conan stick it out at the 12 am slot for a couple of years till Leno's contract ran out?

because he was hired to do the tonight show. moving his show later was not the tonight show. he had every right be be pissed off. and leno/nbc already fucked him over. why would he want to stay on a network that showed a huge amount of faith in him giving him the job, then yanking it away so quickly?

It wouldn't have been yanked away, just delayed for a couple of years more till Leno's contract ran out. And Conan could have hammered out a new deal to ensure he would not get screwed over again.

Re: Conan --> Series Discussion Thread --> 2010-2011

He was right to leave in my opinion. It was a slap in the face to Conan to give him the gig for roughly seven months and then basically say: its not working so we're going to bring Jay back to the spot you were promised and essentially put you back where you were. Plus who's to say that NBC wouldn't have had another change of heart about giving him the gig after Jay eventually left for good? I think all in all its worked out better for him anyways as his TBS show doesn't have to cater to a mainstream audience necessarily and he can be more himself.

And thats why he would have had an additional legal guarantee.

Regardless it was a good choice on his part to leave and I think a lot of people in similar situations would have done the same.

Jay Leno was hovering over that job. The only reason he doesn't currently have it is because NBC forced him out. He wasn't going anywhere until he was forced to do so.

Again, Conan would not have trusted Leno, he would have hammered out an ironclad deal with NBC.

Also, why did NBC force Leno out after Conan left? Wasn't he getting good ratings?

He had an iron clad deal to host the tonight show on NBC. Look where that got him. I don't think you realize that having a contract didn't mean shit in this case because they just bought him out of it. They wanted him out so they got him out.

Wow, weird to see that people don't think his show is that funny - I think he's the best along with James Corden from the late late show.

I wanted to ask....does anyone know if the skits with Jordan Schlansky are real or staged?? I mean it's seriously hard for me to tell to an extent and if they are staged...kudos to them for making it so hilarious - here's a few skits if you don't know what I'm talking about:

Conan is the only late-night interview show I watch (and love). The rest can go pound sand (although I haven't watched Colbert yet).

Re: Conan --> Series Discussion Thread --> 2010-2011

I must confess to watching Late Night sporadically these days (usually on a Friday or an occasion when I have the next day off), but Conan is still one of the better hosts out there. Colbert is quite good (and I didn't think he would be) and I like Kimmel at times as well.

I do not get the love for Jimmy Fallon. He seems like a nice guy and I always liked him on SNL, but i think he's horribly unfunny. He doesn't have the improv skills that most of the others (past and present) have...so, while he can CRAFT a good joke, he doesn't have the wit to spontaneously fire something off in the heat of the moment - an ability that hosts like Conan, Colbert, Leno, Letterman, and Carson all brought to the table.

Fallon is terrible. If I wanted to watch a Celebrity Circle Jerk Love-Fest Kiss-Ass session, I'd move to Dubuque. If this is what mainstream America enjoys, more power to them.

Hokeyboy - you should check out the late late show with James Corden as well - I'm not saying you'll definitely like him but he is full of energy and ditches the standard late night formula (he has all guests come out at once) as a result, he guests seem to talk more and be more relaxed because of it.

Again, just bringing it up as really only like Conan and James Corden.

As far as fallon goes....I don't get why I'm suppose to be entertained by celebrities playing password or beer pong - the egg game can be pretty funny at times but all in all, the show is pretty annoying.

Corden himself is pretty annoying. He is basically like a more effeminate & British version of Jimmy Fallon with all the ass kissing.

I do love the format of having all the guests out at once, though. That's the only reason I watch from time to time.

re: Conan O'Brien - Shows, Projects, and News

I can't stand Corden. He just comes across as trying too hard to be funny and just falls flat almost all the time. Part of it is just that I hate how he replaced Ferguson who was far and away one of the best. I know Ferguson left by his own choice but I just hate that CBS and Corden turned such a brilliant show into just another generic mainstream friendly program.

I'll stick with Conan and Kimmel when I'm in the mood for late night. Colbert is okay but not my favorite.

Humble brag. Got the mail today and there was a small package in it. Hadn't been expecting anything. Opened it up and this was inside.

re: Conan O'Brien - Shows, Projects, and News

It sounds like TBS is changing 'Conan' from a four night a week show to a once a week show.

TBS is planning to retool late-night talk show “Conan” to a weekly format instead of a nightly one, Turner CEO John Martin told TheWrap. It’s not immediately clear when this will occur.
