As Flave said, no one knows. But don't think of it as a possible sci-fi show. This show is MUCH more like 24 than like LOST or a sci-fi show. If you liked 24, you'll probably like this.

I agree. The Pilot was produced without Evan Katz's influence and I think once he joined the show in episode 2, he really changed things up and made it more of a tight, plot-driven action thriller like 24 since he worked on that show so long. I think more people would have stayed with it, especially those in this forum who dumped it after 1 episode.

I absolutely cannot watch another show with all seeing satellites, all-access traffic cams, beeping computers with huge screens and PDA's with blue prints of every building in the world.

Wait. If this is the case then how are they able to live 66 years "in our time", if you will, without aging? Sophia and the rest look the same as they did when they arrived back in the 1940's.
Wasn't it said that although they were human, there were still some differences? As if they evolved differently?

Another thought is that in the future they discover how to dramatically slow the aging process through gene-splicing, and these people came back to our time to do something, but they still don't age.

Or they are from really, really far in the future where the slower aging evolved on it's own.
Or, they are actually descendants from past abductees from very early in our own evolution that evolved differently on a parallel path. So then they are neither really aliens or from the future.

I'm worried that if they are doing time-travelers from a distant Earth, one that has no knowledge of modern world History, it will become a paradoxical conclusion i.e. them coming back is what causes the Event they came back to stop.
Really do enjoy the show and I hope that the reason for the visitors' altered states is very clever and that the actual Event ends up being worth it.

Unfortunately, as far as "regular history" goes, this was a very poor choice.
They said on the show that the Manhattan Project sped things up by 20-30 years but that is simply ridiculous. The knowledge required to build the bomb was all there and mostly discovered in the 20s and 30s. If the Americans hadn't done it, the Russians almost certainly would have done it in the next couple of years. That the world would have an atomic bomb by the late 40s was inevitable. The only thing the Manhattan Project accomplished was to beat the Russians and to have the bomb ready in time to end the Pacific war.

And by 1944... we were well on our way to getting the bomb.
They should have changed the dialogue to something about "...gave them a few pointers..." to speed things up a bit...
Very odd creative decision.

I would think they'd have to be aliens. Thomas ripped apart that radio or whatever and said "They're still using vacuum tubes."
Well no shit. If they were simply time travelers I would think he would know a little something about the time they traveled back to and the technology without having to rip apart a device. Especially for a nuclear scientist.
Then again, this is coming from a show where a person trying to escape from a bathroom doesn't lock the door behind herself.

Well they could have traveled to back without either knowing when they were going back to or the history of the the time they were going back to.
Yeah, that non-locking bathroom bit was weak and they could have easily fixed it by showing that the door couldn't be locked without a key.

And that's why he was able to infiltrate and "help" the Manhattan Project.

Caught up on this show in the last few days... we started with episode one and then marathoned a few a day. It definitely flows better like that, though now we'll have to wait a week at a time like everyone else.
I actually hate this. He shouldn't be interrogating the prisoner like that. Also, it's a little ridiculous to me that he was going after the guys who saved his life when there are people out there who sent a plane to crash land on him (obviously, I thought this before the plane people started getting sick).
I don't understand why they would put them in a near dead state if all they wanted to do was threaten the President into releasing prisoners by having them get sick. Hopefully, this is explained. It made for a great cliffhanger, though.
I know the whole "there's a plane in both series" thing is laughed at, but the flashbacks really do remind me of Lost, as they're just there to conveniently fill in backstory. I liked the ones explaining where the baby came from, but I have no idea why they did multiple flashbacks to Thanksgiving... did they just want to show how much they loved each other? Seemed very disruptive to the show, unless there was some key element in there that will be revealed later (like maybe that sketchy story about Shawn's parents)
So did we ever find out:
1) where the VP and director were when the plane was coming down? They couldn't be found right before the news conference, right? I still think the swerve is that the VP, not the director, is behind this plan to assassinate the president/cover up the aliens.
2) how Shawn found out Luke-from-Gilmore-Girls was flying that plane that day?
The non-stop train does seem like yet another idea that was borrowed from elsewhere. At first, I thought their teleporter only worked on moving objects or something, which is why they wanted her on a train and why they couldn't just teleport all of the prisoners out, but that seems to not be the case.

80s flashback.
Vicky's mom was Ted Knights daughter on 'Two close for comfort' and the Chinese Doctor was Klinger's wife on 'MASH'. Time hasnt been kind to either.
Also, the great William Russ was 'Roger Lococco' on Wiseguy in the late 80s.

I love how they added a "Red Line to Glenmont" sign on a Metro that was clearly NOT Washington, DC's transit system.
