The Office -- "Counseling" -- 09/30/10

Creed's always good for a crazy line like that each episode.
I enjoy Michael when they showcase the idiot side, but I also enjoy the dramatic side, as we saw last night. Some of my favorite scenes where of his in Season 5 when he convinced Pam that his paper company could work and how he went head to head with Wallace during their buyout negotiation. It showed that, aside from his usual stupidity, he also possesses a sharp business sense, at times.

I understand he's a writer and producer and all that. I'm just saying they should dump his character. He doesn't add anything to the show any more. I'm not even sure what his job is at this point. They had that story last year where he and Dwight were going to sabotage Jim after his promotion, but that went nowhere. In fact I don't even remember them doing anything after they agreed to team up.
I guess I wouldn't care, but he still appears in the opening credits and on the promo art with Michael, Jim, Pam, Dwight, and now Andy, while characters that actually bring something to the table do not. For some reason that really bugs me.

The ironic thing is that I think they could do much more with his character. In fact, in some ways, I'd rather see his character develop than Jim's or Dwight's.

As far as Pam goes, I felt like what she did was pretty in line with her character. Not season 1 Pam, but the more assertive and confrontational Pam that we've seen in the last year or two. I'm not saying I like or dislike her character as it is, but she's a long way from the shrinking wallflower she started as. And besides, just like Jim as manager, it didn't feel right with Pam being a salesman.

Dwight rips them off and stomps on them.
Kellie: Aw...I liked them.
Ryan: Yeah, me too.
I thought that was a pretty funny interchange during the Dwight makeover.

the disposable camera bit and Kelly saying she tunes herself out were great.

Incidentally, I've been trying to figure out since then how I can create my own new job, too. :P

I just took it as Gabe is in over his head and hates to be confrontational with people, so he's a push over.

I thought it was confusing, too. I think the idea was that Gabe told Pam they didn't have anything on her Administrator job...but she realized he didn't know for certain that she was lying. He was only bluffing about being certain and she called his bluff, thus the cut to Pam's confession about watching poker at 2 am.
Incidentally, I've been trying to figure out since then how I can create my own new job, too. :P

Also, I think it showed that Gabe has absolutely no backbone and can't make any kind of decision or call on his own.

Thought that was pretty clear...playing the person, not the game.

Ehhh, this was one okay. The Pam subplot was interesting, although I can't believe she was able to get away with that. I like how she comes off as being so innocent when trying to justify it. Toby and Michael was annoying. The part that was sort of funny was when Michael forced him to wrap it up fast and then gave him the double middle fingers.
I did get a good chuckle from Erin throwing away the disposable camera.
Overall, a very forgettable episode. Probably not going to remember this 6 months from now.

I was really rooting for Pam being able to pull it off. After all, she does have a new baby, and her husband's income is contingent on sales. The way she went about it showed more cleverness and ambition than most people there.
I really like the character, and don't see her as bitchy at all. More assertive than earlier seasons, sure, but that's attributable more to character growth than being a c**t.
BTW, did anyone else get the impression that Oscar wasn't buying it for a minute?

I agree with you Sessioner; she's grown as a character and is now more self-assured, confident, and assertive. She's never been a bitch, and it's telling that people characterize her as own now because she isn't the meek secretary from Season 1 anymore. I mean, why should someone change at all in 7 years?
And yeah, Oscar wasn't buying it for a minute.

Okay there's gotta be a gif of when Toby starts opening up to Michael and Michael leans forward, puts his head on his hands in a sarcastic/cute way and smiles. That's just about the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

You can't be serious.
