Re: Bryan Fuller and NBC to reboot/remake The Munsters

Some potential casting news:

Mockingbird Lane
"Sliders" and "Piranha 3D" star Jerry O'Connell is set to play Herman Munster in "1313 Mockingbird Lane", the upcoming 'dark and edgy' reboot of classic 60's comedy "The Munsters" on NBC.

Herman was the patriarch of the family memorably played by Fred Gwynne in the original. He joins the currently cast Eddie Izzard as Grandpa Munster and Mason Cook as the werewolf son Eddie. [Source: WP]

The more I hear about this project, the more it sounds like Fuller and NBC thought Tim Burton's DARK SHADOWS was going to be a huge hit, and they'd have this television series coming on to appeal to all those people...now that the movie bombed (or semi-bombed), I'm actually shocked NBC hasn't pulled the plug.

Jerry O'Connell as Herman Munster? Have I slid into some weird alternate universe?

When I think of "dark and edgy" I think of Jerry O'Connell.

I thought he would reboot Heroes but that failed.

Re: Bryan Fuller and NBC to reboot/remake The Munsters

If they can't get the woman from Devious Maids (like they're trying to) to play Lily, they should get Serinda Swan (Breakout Kings)...she is available now.

Also how can Eddie be a werewolf boy if his parents are a (Frankenstein's) monster and a vampire? I think Lily must have had something on the side with a werewolf. That would actually be a great running gag like on King of the Hill with Dale's son.

Re: Bryan Fuller and NBC to reboot/remake The Munsters

Well, they couldn't get their first choice for Lily so Portia De Rossi will be playing Lily. I'm liking the cast but it all depends on the chemistry among them and what tone the show takes.

I have faith in Brian Fuller, since he did write the best "Heroes" episode, "Company Man". Not to mention he created Pushing Daisies, Dead Like me and Wonderfalls. I'll hold judgement until I see an actual pilot.

I wonder what the surrounding neighborhood will look like. It would be cool if they're building it on the Desperate Housewives set.

They were building right next to the Housewives set, so I'd imagine they will start converting some of those into houses for this.

I feel the same way. I think Fuller could pull this off.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the network has decided to air the pricey $10 million pilot, which has been in development for two years, as a Halloween special. Mockingbird Lane will air Friday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. before Grimm (Oct. 31 is a Wednesday).
NBC declined to comment.
Based on the goofy 1964-66 CBS comedy series about a Frankenstein-ish dad and his monstrous relatives, NBC's new version is from writer-producer Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) and director Bryan Singer (the X-Men movies, House) with a cast including Jerry O'Connell as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi as Lily Munster and Eddie Izzard as the Dracula-esque Grandpa.

That $10m is kind of the norm for a TV program that relies on visuals?

Boardwalk Empire's pilot was $18m
Lost was $14m
Fringe was $10m
Pan-Am was $10m
Terra Nova between $10m and $20m

I want to know the budget for the Pushing Daisies pilot as I assume that would be this shows closest match.

Hawaii 5-0 had a pilot budget of $10 million at the time as well.

So I take it this was a put pilot deal and they're saving money by airing it.

Jerry O'Connell as Herman Munster, yea it sounds like it will blow.

Also Eddie Izzard is only ten years older than Portia DiRossi so him playing Grandpa strikes me as odd.

Are there any promo pics for this or anything? Since it's in the can, I'm surprised nothing has surfaced.

What in the world did they spend 10 million bucks on? It sure as heck wasn't makeup or costumes, that's for sure. What a train wreck....

The Munsters without makeup? So, it's The Addams Family?
