Bryan Fuller and NBC to reboot/remake The Munsters

per ew and http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/09/...-the-munsters/
Consider this an early Halloween present from me to you: Pushing Daisies mastermind Bryan Fuller is toiling away on a modern-day reboot of the creepshow classic The Munsters!
So far, NBC, with whom Fuller has an overall deal, has only ordered a pilot. But since the potential series is being described to me as “Modern Family meets True Blood,” I have a good feeling about it.
Not only that, but rumor has it no less than Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy) is eyeing a behind the scenes role in the project.

Hmm.

Nope, don't care. And I love most of what Bryan Fuller does.

Hmmm ... I like Fuller but never cared for the Munsters. Still, if this makes it to air, I'll check it out.

Of course he is. What isn't Guillermo del Toro producing? I'm not even in the entertainment industry, and Guillermo has already optioned the script I'm not writing and is attached as producer.

Can't stand Modern Family or True Blood, but loved the original Munsters. So, I kind of doubt I'd enjoy this reboot much at all.

Making a new Munsters.

Okay....why?

Re: Bryan Fuller and NBC to reboot/remake The Munsters

So let's summarize Fuller's 2 year development deal at NBC

Year 1= Re-joins Heroes as consulting producer, writes 2 episodes and then quits. Show is cancelled.

Year 2= Pitches a Munsters re-boot for Pilot.

= Fail

While I respected his work on Pushing Daisies, the NBC executive who listened to this pitch had to be drunk or something. I don't know what his "vision" of this is, but actors walking around in goofy costumes wearing makeup & prostetics as a family sounds ridiculously corny, especially for the 21st century.

It's official, there are no more original ideas in Hollywood.

I could see a movie remake of the series but honestly a full blown reboot television series?? I don't know I just don't see it working in this day and age.

People have said this as long as there have been remakes.

I just wonder if they will stick with the classic monsters or if we will get to see some more modern monsters/horror icons from more modern times?

Like any other Bryan Fuller series I suspect this will be great the first season and either be canceled or slide in quality on the second season.

This smells to me like NBC being desperate to get something out of Fuller's deal, like some exec said, "fuck it, have him make the Munsters or something" and then his boss thought that was a brilliant idea.

Now Fuller redoing The Addams Family, on the other hand...

Del Toro gave my grocery list the greenlight yesterday so I'm good to go shopping this weekend.

NBC ought to change their slogan from "Proud as a peacock" to "Embarrassed as shit".

These days, creative for Hollywood is remaking something that hasn't already been remade multiple times.

I've wanted to see a reboot of Munsters for years. With Brad Garrett starring as Herman, of course.

Per Ausiello
Talk about putting the Vania before the Transyl: NBC and Pushing Daisies mastermind Bryan Fuller are in the very early stages of developing a reboot of the creepshow classic The Munsters, but there’s already a fervent fan movement under way to get Kristen Bell cast as Marilyn. And one of those fans is Fuller himself!
“Are you kidding me?” he enthuses of the Veronica Mars powerhouse. “Kristen would be perfect.”
Coincidentally, Fuller says the Munster clan’s “plain” cousin will be much more pivotal than she was in the ’60s original. “She is our eyes into the world,” he explains, “in the sense that we all can relate to our families exhibiting some level of monstrous behavior.” (Also playing a larger role: Eddie’s pet dragon, Spot.)
Fuller plans to fashion his Munsters update as a cross between Modern Family and True Blood. “This version has teeth and isn’t afraid to use them,” he says with a laugh. “For example, the story begins when young Eddie unexpectedly manifests as a werewolf on a scout camping trip and inadvertently eats two of his fellow scouts.” Sounds yummy!

Re: Bryan Fuller and NBC to reboot/remake The Munsters

If they're only basing this very loosely on The Munsters, I'd strongly suggest to them finding a different title for the show. The show it seems they're describing is far afield enough to piss off people looking for a reboot, and the original is corny enough to keep people who would watch what is described from checking it out.

However, this has already been re-done...with the 2 or 3 made for TV movies over the years after the show left the air.
