The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret (IFC) - Series Thread

New series airing Friday nights on IFC starring David Cross and featuring Will Arnett. Just saw the pilot, and it was very funny, especially considering that pilots are typically crammed full of exposition. Cross plays a semi-loser who is promoted to run a new branch of an energy drink company in England. If you like British comedy and Arrested Development, I have no doubt you will like this.

Spoiler:
Gotta give a show a chance that has an opening scene where the main character is sitting befuddled in front of a war crimes-like tribunal being charged with funding terrorism, possessing biological weapons, blackmail, possession of child pornography with the intent to distribute, etc.

Note that my TiVo had this listed as "Todd Margaret," so if you search by title and type in "Increasingly," you won't find it.

Anybody check this out last night? I got a chance to watch this off the dvr earlier and thought it was hysterical! I was laughing the hardest when Dave has him drinking all the energy drinks in the coffee shop.

"It's like Rocky 2 fucked Rocky 4 and boom...Rocky 5!"

The final shot after the credits showing the cat had eaten itself to death while other cats and birds had invaded the apartment was pretty damn funny.

Overall, the show was odd. Funny stuff to be sure, but in a lot of ways it felt like a series of sketches more than it did a cohesive episode.

It is far better than Running Wilde...

I had seen the pilot previously but didn't rememebr that. Glad I rewatched the episode or I would have missed that little snippet. It was a nice bonus.

I am all over this! I love David Cross, and having Arnett aboard for the ride is a huge plus.

It took it a bit to get going, but I was really enjoying it by the end. Funny stuff.

They re-shot several of the scenes because the original actor who played his employee in England was recast. I'm assuming due to the fact that the original pilot was shot over a year ago and the previous actor was no longer available. In addition to the re-shoots they added some scenes and removed at least one. The "cats scene" was newly added.

Re: The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret - IFC Fridays 10e/9c

honestly I think Will Arnett steals the show. so for me the begining of the show was better than the end of the show.

The employee is not a very likable character - not funny, charming, etc.

The opening minutes were gold, but once he got to London it completely lost me.

To me the opening minutes were Will Arnett swearing for no reason. I don't mind the language, but it seemed out of place.

I liked the pilot when I saw it a long time ago, but the new pilot was a lot better. Sharon Horgan is one of my favorite Brit comedy actresses, Pulling was a great show.

I'm glad someone mentioned that they reshot part of the pilot. That'll give me a good excuse to watch it again. I saw V1 when it aired in the UK and could use a refresher anyway.

David Cross played the first ten minutes during one of his stand-up shows quite a while ago and I initially didn't even believe it was really going to be a series. I'd thought it was just a sketch.

Re: The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret - IFC Fridays 10e/9c

Why would you buy a little girl with cancer a box of condoms?

She's not that little. Uh, I mean, she's already sexually active. A bit of a whore, really. And that's how she got cancer (in the mouth). And they're covered...they're chocolate covered...uh...condoms...kids...to teach kids how to eat...condoms.

I laughed at the apparently signature closing: Todd pissing himself and the latest from his dead cat's apartment.

I also realized the crimes he was being charged with in the beginning were all ones attributable to his actions during the episode: child endangerment, espionage, embezzlement, persistent public urination, impersonating a gentleman

I thought the episode was pretty weak until he got the woman back to the apartment. And then that whole thing with the condoms saved it. Just great stuff as he spirals down the path.

And yeah, it's great that they kept the dead cat stuff going, or should I say dead cats?
