Watching this I couldn't help but feel like when I tried watching the 7th season premiere of One Tree Hill. It's just this sense of "the original storyline is done so why watch this coda?".

I was also underwhelmed. I went through the first five seasons in about two and a half weeks. Other than a few weak episodes in season one, I was thoroughly hooked the whole time. This episode felt like a slog to get through. I do love me some Mitch Pileggi, though. They need to do something to pump things up quick, because this wasn't it. It doesn't really surprise me, as Sera Gamble is not one of the better writers on the show, imo. Someone get Ben Edlund to do an episode, he always brings the goods.

Thought about this more all day. I think I really like where this is heading. The show needs a new direction, and I would be glad if it was a family affair now hunting monsters. I think it could add much more interest & dynamic to the show & cast. I'm also glad that it seems to be going back to a monster-of-the-week premise. I was so sick of the demons & angels plot.
Also, I FINALLY appreciated Sam's acting. The whole pissed-off attitude got on my nerves (and still does with Dean).

eh, i'd like to trust where they're going with this....but after last season they've got big shoes to fill. and not off to a good start, imo.

I liked this ep more than most of you guys, but I agree it did feel off. I already hate the Campbell's, and don't want them around. Hopefully, something happens with them that changes my mind. But I really liked the introspective stuff with Dean. When this show started, I thought this was the Sam show, but this whole story is really Dean's tale. So I was cool with the first chunk of this episode dealing with him and his new life.
Sam's coming back from hell, along with Gramps, feels a little cheap to me. Only because we don't know what that's about yet, and we just saw Dean go to, and come back from, hell 2 minutes ago to much greater effect.
I think this show will get it's groove back by episode five, but I'm really hoping it proves a worthy epilogue to the phenomenal first five seasons of this show.

Oh, and I do have to say, Cindy Sampson (who plays Lisa), is seriously hot. I'd rather stick around with her than hunt monsters, but that's just me.

I think it would be really cool if "Sam isn't really Sam" and the real one is still trapped for most of the season.

She is hot, but I also think it's pretty commendable that she pulls off being someone you can actually picture Dean putting it all on the line for. Really, there is no reason to buy into the Dean/Lisa romance, since she was in all of one episode before last season, but I totally do.

This was just so underwhelming, it was 40 minutes of "What is this? we don't know. We just don't know. I don't know. Nobody knows. We don't know. I knew for a year about that, but I don't know anything else"
Hopefully it picks up steam.

I thought it was okay, but went in with pretty high expectations since last season was so awesome. I do like Mitch Pileggi, so I hope they do something cool with his character. Not a super-strong season premiere, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure they gave us more Campbell's so they have more cannon fodder for the season.
