Also, from what I've read, he's pretty active on the convention circuit. Even if you ignore who "owes" who what you would think he would do it just so he doesn't keep getting asked why he didn't for the rest of his life.

You don't have to agree with the argument to see it is my point.

I guess you don't realize that just by watching - viewers like you - support a show to the point where a network renews it and continues running said show. If viewers don't watch - then a show is canceled and no one gets paid. Basically what you're saying is that your time is worthless. I would disagree as you could have just as easily watched something else all those years.
I get that you didn't literally put money in the man's pocket, but that doesn't mean that loyalty of the cultish group of people who faithfully watched the show for all these years didn't give him a pretty nice livelihood for more than a few years, because without them, the show is canceled pretty quickly.
In the end he sure doesn't "owe" anyone, anything, but it would be a nice gesture for the small group of fans who have kept the show on the air all these years - including the ones that he got paid for.

You also left out raises. Isn't Smallville the #1 show on CW? You know all those cats get paid handsomely. Speaking of, can a show that is #1 on the network really be considered cultish?
That is quite possibly the best reason to do it.

Smallville is typically 2nd in ratings on the CW, as The Vampire Diaries brings in about 10% more in ratings, and on Thursday night, which is a more competitive night.

Fair enough but up until then wasn't Smallville top dog?

America's Next Top Model used to also bring in a lot of viewers (relatively speaking), at its peak, about a 5 share, these days, probably 2.5-3.0 share, which would tip it close to The Vampire Diaries' ratings. But in the first 5-6 years, Smallville was always running in the top 3 shows on the WB/CW.

Dammit patman, go away! Can't you see I'm trying to make a case based on non-existent facts?

I don't even watch this show... so I'm not sure why I clicked on this thread. I also saw the news about the actor who plays Lex not returning and even I, as a non-fan, am insulted... on behalf of fans everywhere.

Re: Smallville Casting Bombshell
The producers have said she definitely won't be back. She may not be needed, but the Clark/Lana relationship was a huge focus of the first seven years of the show, for better or worse. I really wanted Lana to come back "cured" and have Clark tell her to her face that Lois is the one he wants to be with. I mean, it's not like there weren't unresolved feelings between them - he was on the verge of tears when they were so tragically ripped apart.
That relationship only ended because of the writer's stupid deux ex machia. It was a terrible cop-out of a resolution.

The actor continues, “I can’t wait to hug the old crew back in Vancouver one last time and see all of my old friends once again. Oh, and for Lex to become the bad-ass he’s destined to be.”

Glad to hear it. Funny how after a day of reporting he would not be back, that the next day the story changed? Even Major magazines like Entertainment Weekly were reporting he wasn't coming back.

He should do it because he wants to. Not out of some sense of obligation. Maybe there was a point where he was like Boreanaz and moved on from the character.

So one day he's out and the next he's in? I wonder what will be reported tomorrow.
