Was the time jumping really that hard to follow? It was essentially only 3 different periods. "Current day", 13 months ago for the Pres-Sofia storylines, and 3-1 weeks ago for Sean's storyline.

Hard to follow? No, but for me it was unintentionally hilarious -- reminded me of one of those shitty spoof movies joking on the whole timeshift premise "1 Year, 3 months, 8 days, 12 hours, 14 minutes, 33.14159265 seconds prior!"

Per EW's Michael Ausiello.....

Watching episode 2 of THE EVENT. Three MAJOR questions already answered.

I don't know about that. Reviews on this board seem to be mixed. Many seem to have liked it, but the people that didn't like it have been much more vocal.

Overall, there might be a few more people that didn't like it, but the response, on this board at least, hasn't been overwhelmingly negative.

And keep in mind that a lot of the detractors (not all) equated to a single sentence along the lines of "OMG WTF Lost was on a plane, this is shit and will die!"

I hope all the detractors watch Lone Star then next week. At least do me a favor.

Well, 23 mins ago it went... No wait, 11 days ago it went... No wait, 13 months ago it went... No wait, 17 years ago it went... No wait, 150 years ago it went...

It took long enough for the plane to go 88 mph before the flux capacitor kicked in.

There it is, in a nutshell. :)

Didn't like it. They failed to get me to care about the characters, and the blob in the sky just looked like bad f/x.

Boy, I watched this on my DVR today, and maybe it was just because the detractors were so vocal and they lowered my expectations, but I really liked it.

At first, I wasn't sold on the multi-timeline storytelling, but about 2/3 of the way through I could tell it was getting to my wife, so I paused it and we went through it together. And as I was explaining it to her, I realized how this device was adding to the tension of the story for me, in a sort of Hitchcockian way. We knew where the characters ended up on "today", but seeing the events (no pun intended) that led them to where they were being slowly pieced together was actually kind of fascinating to me.

Yes, the ending was a bit obvious, but I'm not sure how they could have handled it better, given that this was only the pilot episode. They covered a lot of ground in 45 minutes. Maybe a two hour pilot might have been better, but I don't think it would have been essential.

Finally got a chance to watch this. I liked it, but didn't absolutely love it. I think it has enough potential to be awesome, so I'll stick with it a while and see what happens.

I liked it and will see where it takes me. It'll hold me until The Walking Dead comes on :)

I found it entertaining enough to tune in next week but it's not on the level of shows like 24, Lost, or Fringe.

I just watched this, or at least the first 15 minutes and then FF through the rest. I completely agree with Tracer's posts about intentionally obscure dialog being no substitute for a good mystery.

Ditto...this will be a week by week judgment call. I liked it enough to watch next week. I agree it is not on the same level as some of the top shows on television. Next week may make or break the show. Hopefully, it is entertaining enough to draw me back for week 3.

Re: The Event -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/20/10

Finally got around to watching it the other day.

The time-jumping was a bit hard to follow... this is a new series, with characters and situations with which the viewer is unfamiliar, so it's sort of confusing to jump back and forth in the timeline with all of these disparate plot threads like the President, the gimpy ER doc, the kid on vacation with his girlfriend, the family getting killed, etc.

So far, the mysteries of the series don't really intrigue me much. We have the disappearing airplane, the prisoners in the Arctic Gitmo, and the guy with the missing identity. None of them are the level of holy crap! there's some kind of MONSTER moving around in the jungle!

I'll stick around for a while, but at this point, I don't think I'd miss it much if it died before Christmas.

a bit meh so far

Will probably save the episodes and see if it gets cancelled. If it doesn't and people say the first season ended up being fantastic, will watch it in the offseason

I liked it enough to keep watching but there better be a pretty good explanation of what the event is.

Just watched it last night. Has potential, but seriously, why make it complicated just for the sake of being showy and complicated? Don't they realize they will lose viewers that way? Just tell the story as it is.

Re: The Event -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/20/10

Finally caught this tonight after my DVR dropped the ball and didn't record this on Monday.

Considering how heavily hyped and promoted this show was during the summer, I was really fired up to see this, but shockingly, I was underwhelmed.

Hated the storyline telling technique with 4 days earlier, 8 days earlier, 13 months earlier. It got really annoying for me as a viewer trying to comprehend the outline of the plot and getting to know the characters.

Disappointed with Jason Ritter's performance as Sean Walker. For a guy who is technically the "lead" of this show, I found him rather dull and lifeless. Loved his girlfriend though Sarah Roemer . I know this isn't really a fair comparison, but when 24 1st premiered back in 2001, I thought Kiefer Sutherland give us a much more compelling and interesting introduction to the Jack Bauer character and I was already rooting for him right off the bat. Now that the Pilot is out of the way, hopefully Evan Katz, the showrunner and former 24 writer, can put some of his experience into the show and make Sean a more compelling character. The disappearance of Laila & her sister? was an interesting plot though and I liked what happend to the plane at the end.

I also thought the introduction to the characters, Sean, Simon Lee, President Martinez and Laila's father was really clunky. If the Pilot were 2 hours, I think it would have better fleshed out these characters.

Overall, I would give this a C+

Seems to be a pattern with new shows over the last year or so....I really do not like it either. They have done it from time to time in the movie industry and now it seems to be happening on a regular basis with television shows.

Ehhh. Watched this yesterday on the Tivo. Couldnt stay awake during it. At the end, didnt really care that I didnt know what was going on. If I got a free tuner next week, I will check out the second episode. If not, this show is history.

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of the show and I like most of the cast, but the non-linear storytelling got really frustrating to watch and made the Pilot very hard to follow. I just hope that it was mostly done for the Pilot and they won't rely on that device for the next xx episodes.
