To each his own, but with episodes like Half Measure and Full Measure, not to mention great episodes from the first two seasons, I don't see how anyone could think The Fly was the best episode of the series.

Because Cranston was acting like Hal from Malcolm in the Middle. Spending 10 minutes to kill a fly? Very out of character for Walter

When I watched the episode that I didn't think it was that bad, almost everybody complained here in DVDTalk. However, I didn't think, and still don't think that was one of the best of the season or the series! In perspective it may be one of the lesser ones of the season.

So, it makes me wonder about anyone that says it's one of the best of the series, or the best. (???!!!)

If you go back and look at that thread, the reactions to the episode were much more evenly split than you remember. After taking out the people that seemed to fall somewhere in the middle, there were actually more people that like it than disliked it.

Personally, I didn't think anything Walt did was out of character. Is it exaggerated a bit, yes. But that isn't the selling point for me.

The two main characters are in this tight space, dealing with each other on a very personal level. Walt's near confession is the high point of the episode (and the series), it was expertly executed.

That is why I liked it so much. Granted, this might not move the story forward all the much, or is it nearly as intense as the episodes after would be, but it was a nice break.

I was thinking back over the run of this series, the first two seasons were incredibly entertaining but the reliance on coincidence was always a bit much for me. The third season started out slow and had a few lulls but imo it evolved the show past the issues I had with it, when you have as much tension in an episode where the two characters are literally just sitting in an RV you've done something incredibly right. Sunset, One Minute, Half Measure and Full Measure are some of the best episodes I can recall ever seeing on TV.

I cannot think of many movies with moments as tense, intense or surprising as some of the moments in those episodes.

I'm curious to see how well Season 4 debuts ratings wise - scrolling through Facebook it seems like a lot of people picked it up during the break between 3 and 4 (almost all positive feedback). This show deserves a much greater viewer base than it has.

Got notice from Amazon that season 3 Blu is in the mail Looking forward to watching this a second time in anticipation of season 4.

I have season 2 on DVD. The Blu set is $5 more for Season 3. I'm debating if the picture quality is that much greater for a TV show from DVD to Blu as to whether I get the Blu or not.

Can't believe it took this long to FINALLY get Season 3.

^ Picture quality is likely only marginally better than the AMC HD feed. I prefer the Blu's because the episodes are uncensored and the special featured are impressive on these sets (below).
