Yea, I was waiting for this kind of episode, to make everybody's panties bunch up. The answer to Smokey was never going to be really satisying and was always going to be some magic thing...pure and simple. How can a man be a smoke monster? Seriously. Is it any more credible if the writers had say it was Osiris , the ancient Egyptian god? Just because the mythology does not appear to be routed in some previous explanation - people get mad - because they can't do wikipedia research and find the answer.
This is like the Battlestar Galactica Starbuck syndrome - either you go with the flow of the unexplained or you get stuck hating it.
Personally, I kinda of liked the episode. It was refreshing to step back from the main characters for a bit. Seeing Season 1 Kate in HD (I didn't have HD until Season Two) was nice as well.

I'd rather have seen the mythology tied to something real than that contrived crap from last night. It would have saved us from that terrible writing. The island has a 100 foot Egyptian statue on it. We'll just kinda pretend it doesn't exist though right?
These last two episodes better be something really good.

Even Jimmy Kimmel is kinda of goofing on this episode:

No he definitely is. If he wasn't, he would have simply killed Jacob and not gone through some long drawn out process where Ben has to because of the "rules".

I enjoyed it. Did you people all turn into Comic Book Guy or something? You'll be pissed if they don't explain everything, then when they do explain something you get all offended and act like they're insulting your intelligence...

To all the haters: this entire SHOW has been about characters with daddy/parent issues. All along, every character. Name a Lostie or one of the main characters on the show and you can match them up with some kind of daddy/parent issue. Any one of them.
The fact that Jacob/MIB stems from a similar parent issue does not shock me in the least. I knew it was going to come down to this...

The more I think about this episode, the more I am glad I watched shows like The Shield and The Wire. In their last seasons, they tied up all the loose ends in a fantastic way so that fans could get some closure. Makes this shit that Lost is feeding us a complete and utter ridiculous mess.

It's always one step forward and 10 steps backwards with Lost.

My beef is they never offer satisfying resolutions. Like Why doesn't Richard age? Jacob gave him the ability. So how did Jacob get the ablity His mother gave him the ability. How did she get the ability then? Why did his mother die?

I still have a hard time accepting that the finale is going to blow and disappoint. ABC has too much riding on this, and dvd sales alone will plummet if the endgame stinks. I know I'll be selling my collection immediately if this happens.

They can't keep going further and further back. "Our" story has to start someplace and that's with Mother. If they show us how she got there they would need to show us how that person before her got there as well. Mother died because she was done with her job, she found her replacements so she wasn't needed. I think it's that simple but we all want to make it more complicated then that.

You'd have preferred "hard start" to our story with a Midichlorians explanation? Same problem that Lucas had, if you get into who Anakin's father is you have to explain him as well. Both Lucas and this failed at giving us a beginning but I guess I'm more satisfied with this method.

Totally makes me think of Star Wars too. What the heck is this mystical force business? Don't really know, but it's pretty nifty!
Lucas's explanation in Episode 1 made me shudder. Sometimes keeping the mysticism/mystery is a good thing. Midi-chlorians my arse...

It's not a mystical force, it's the electromagnetic energy
for whatever reason they are showing it as a yellow glowing light, we first saw it when Ben turned the donkey wheel

Didn't they also speak of pockets of energy around the world early on in the series, specifically when they had a Rose flashback and she traveled to australia?

You wouldn't call something that's "life, death, and rebirth...worse than dying if you see it" a "mystical force"? We did see the smoke monster come out of there. I'd call that a "mystical force".

I honestly couldn't give two shits about questions being answered or unanswered. I could live the rest of my life and still not care who Adam & Eve were, where the donkey wheel came from, and why Jacob is immortal.
As long as the show is entertaining and has got me hooked into the story, that's what matters. This episode failed to do that for me and that's why I didn't like it.

There's no grand "answer" they could come up with that would satisfy everyone. I got hooked on the show because it's good drama with great performances and technical production. The fun for me has always been in exploring the mystery, not solving it.

By trying to demystify some of the most intriguing, complex issues on the show, they've left us with silly bullshit that completely obliterates any of the dramatic street cred they've built over six seasons.
I'd rather the Emperor be wearing NO underwear than finding out he wears the stupidest fucking underwear imaginable.
