re: Treme (HBO) -- from the creator of The Wire, David Simon -- Series Thread
I enjoyed it quite a bit as well, but holy shit is Steve Zahn's character fucking annoying. I almost had to change the channel when ever he came on screen.

Not my thing, couldn't even last the full episode. Really really dull and disjointed.

re: Treme (HBO) -- from the creator of The Wire, David Simon -- Series Thread
I thought it was OK, but I wasn't feeling the best and found myself getting distracted. I'll probably find some time and rewatch it during the week.

I enjoyed it a lot. More than I thought I would.
I'm in for the season. |
re: Treme (HBO) -- from the creator of The Wire, David Simon -- Series Thread
I will definitely try to watch this week. I am definitely interested and I don't know how anyone can give up on a show after the 1st show. Even if the first one is dull and slow that won't be enough for me to give up on the show.

HBO Renews 'Treme' After Airing Premiere
HBO Renews 'Treme' After Airing Premiere
HBO has faith in Treme, giving a second-season renewal to the New Orleans-set drama after airing the premiere episode on Sunday. Like David Simon's previous series for HBO, The Wire, the post-Katrina Treme, which Simon created with Eric Overmyer, is getting solid reviews and will probably rely on similar narrow but devoted following. Treme already is tracking higher than The Wire, drawing 1.1 million viewers in its Sunday night premiere, up from an average of 890,000 viewers who turned in for the original airings of The Wire's final fifth season. But ratings were never a factor in HBO's decision. "This is too good of a show and too important of a show not to invest in a second season," HBO's president of programming Michael Lombardo said. He said the network's brass originally planned to pick up the show last week and then were scheduling a conference call with Simon and Overmyer for yesterday but put that on hold because it was the day of the funeral of Treme co-executive producer David Mills. Production on the second season of the show, starring Wendell Pierce, Steve Zahn, Clarke Peters and Khandi Alexander, will start in the fall in New Orleans. With the renewal of Treme, all of HBO's new series launched in the past couple of years have gone the distance, getting second-year renewals. Awaiting word on its faith is another freshman show, comedy "How to Make It in America. http://www.deadline.com/2010/04/hbo-...me/#more-31651 |

Damn, keep seeing this thinking it's Tremors.... :(

re: Treme (HBO) -- from the creator of The Wire, David Simon -- Series Thread
Really liked this episode. A nice introduction to all the characters, with a few hints at where their storylines might go. I imagine it will be a lot like The Wire in that it will have a very low viewer ship but keep getting renewed based on quality.
That said, I felt like Steve Zahn's character was originally written for the actor who played 'Ziggy' in season 2 of the Wire (and Person in Generation Kill), but it went to the bigger name once Zahn got interested. |
re: Treme (HBO) -- from the creator of The Wire, David Simon -- Series Thread
I absolutely love this show already. I am definitely hooked. The music was great, the mood and setting of New Orleans right after Katrina seemed real and authentic. They really captured it. I can't wait to see the possibilities of where they take this show and I saw it is already renewed for a 2nd season. That shows how much confidence and trust HBO has in Simon.

Exactly. Especially a show like this. The Wire was damn slow at the start, but I can't think of anyone who would regret sticking with it. Hope the same holds true here.
Of course I'll be sticking with the show for a while though, I'm sure it will turn out good. |
re: Treme (HBO) -- from the creator of The Wire, David Simon -- Series Thread
I thought this was great and I'm really looking forward to what it builds to.
I know that with the respect David Simon has for his subjects this is probably the most real depiction of post-Katrina New Orleans that we will see and is definitely more real than 99% of reality TV. |
re: Treme (HBO) -- from the creator of The Wire, David Simon -- Series Thread
The Wire was kind've a slow burn too, so i'm gonna stick with this for awhile.

re: Treme (HBO) -- from the creator of The Wire, David Simon -- Series Thread
I am only 15 mins in and this is already going to be the best show on TV. I also read HBO has already renewed it...which is awesome!

re: Treme (HBO) -- from the creator of The Wire, David Simon -- Series Thread
I thought it was alright.
I'll watch a few more episodes to get a better feel for the show, but I'm expecting that I'll lose interest down the road since this the topic doesn't do much for me. This feels like an unfinished John Sayles film - which is definitely a compliment. I just think that this might work better as a film than it does a series. I can't see this getting good ratings numbers, so I'm surprised HBO is already renewing it for another season. Kudos to the director/producer and everyone involved - it definitely feels very authentic. The show made me damn hungry while watching. |

It took me forever to get through this episode. I like the setting & the premise, but the characters aren't doing much for me. I think they would've been better off with a 1 hour premiere to whet appetites though. This one just seemed to ramble on & that doesn't really give me a hook to want to come back next week.
And they need to kill off Steve Zahn's character & quick. If they show his ass again, this show is dead to me. |

I'm sure this will turn out to be good, but the first episode kind of drags...

re: Treme (HBO) -- from the creator of The Wire, David Simon -- Series Thread
I enjoyed the episode - it was kind of laid back, but full of a zest for life, much like the city of New Orleans. Steve Zahn's character was absolutely annoying and completely superfluous; the fact that he got to be nude and Kim Dickens did not sealed his fate in my eyes - I hope this character dies in a drug - related homicide.

Already the show I look forward to the most every week.

Slim Charles!
They, thankfully, really toned Zahn's character down this ep. Loved the scene with John Goodman's character talking about the program cuts at the college he works at. |
