The thing that didn't seem to fit continuity was that Walter took Peter while he was awake and the mother was there as well. Past episodes always alluded to the fact that Peter was just taken in the middle of the night. Peter even had dreams about an unknown figure entering his room as a kid.

This episode is a great example of what happens when you combine great story-telling with great acting. When I watch other shows (like Lost), I'm always looking for clues, whether they got the science right, always analyzing how this and that might CHANGE EVERYTHING! But while watching this ep, I was completely absorbed by the story and all the rest just fell away into the background where it belonged. IMO, this episode deserves an Emmy and John Noble (Walter) deserves an Emmy.
And yeah, as others have mentioned, this ep might also deserve an Emmy for makeup. I think this is the first time in TV or movies where I've actually believed that the characters looked much younger than their age. Walter and Nina both looked very believable.

Peter looks old enough that he would have immediately noticed the airplanes instead of zeppelins, the sudden lack of cell phones (ubiquitous in alt-verse), and changes in clothing styles. We didn't see but cars were probably very different too. Peter should have had big, big problems adjusting, not to mention blurting out "wrong" things.

yeah, Peter always states he doesn't remember when Walter would talk about events in the past...Walter was remembering actual events w/ the real Peter before he died (ie the quarter trick they referenced on a previous episode)
they both basically died in the frozen lake... could explain Peter not remebering being stole
and nobody has yet to comment on Walter's 1985 assistant... white Astrid!

The mass imbalance could've been solved by digging up Peter-1's dead body and shoving it through the hole to the otherverse. That or an equivalent mass of scripts from prematurely cancelled FOX shows should do the trick.

I took it that the frozen lake was the cause for Peter's memory loss. Whatever the cause, it was lucky for Walter. I feel sorry for Peter if he ever finds out.

How is it that between the two universes, the alternate one is more advanced technologically but it is our universe that created the technology to view into their world and also to travel there?

but they have zepellins and Walter stated that they are more advanced on some things...

Easily
As far as the technology goes I don't find it that far fetched that things developed differently in the 2 universes. Hell, cell phones alone were far more advanced in Europe then here just a few years ago. History unfolded in different ways over there so it makes sense that the technology would be different, some things more advanced over there other things here.

Re: Fringe -- "Peter" -- 04/01/10
but i think it would be hard for them to write that, i mean Walter stole Peter 20 years ago and all indications are that in that Walternate don't know anything about alt world jumping
even though it's one alt world discussed, in prev episodes i'm pretty sure those cyborg shape shifter people were from somewhere else
