Re: Lost -- "The Package" -- 03/30/10
New observation & theory time.
I decided to re-watch Ab Aeterno last night from a different perspective... with Jacob as the bad guy and MiB as the 'good' guy just to see how different it played. In doing so, the wine bottle analogy really got my brain spinning. Assuming there is a hint of truth to that analogy then the bad guy, Jacob, is already loose since he is free to travel back and forth from the island. The cork is already out of the bottle, allowing the bad guy, Jacob, to roam free and wreak havok on people's lives, albeit in a limited capacity. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. Not only that but by stealing MiB's body he has managed to accrue a nice following with Dogen, Ben, Richard and the temple people/others. We have seen via the flash-sideways how much better the castaways lives are without Jacob's involvement.... So... let's assume MiB is then the good guy. He's actually the gatekeeper keeping watch over Jacob. The cork is already out of the bottle so he is actually trying to get off the island and trap Jacob back on the island(i.e. put the cork back in the bottle). Jacob's trips off island seem to be limited so by finding a candidate to replace him he will be permanently free of the island. Since MiB is "good" in this scenario, maybe the rules set in place (can't leave the island), prevent a "man of good" from breaking the rule unless Jacob/Devil/evil is killed first. So in the end, the flash-sideways are a result of MiB succeeding in leaving the island and somehow trapping Jacob (well, now his replacement) on the island thus resetting whatever Jacob did wrong(plugging the cork in the bottle). So in the final episodes the hunt is on to figure out which candidate needs to either stay behind or be trapped on the island. In this scenario, Locke ends up being the gatekeeper/protector of the island like he always thought he was destined for, even if it's just his visage in the MiB. |

I can't wait but my excitement has been somewhat tempered now that I have seen Ab Aeterno. Episode 15 is the next one I'm really looking forward to.

Re: Lost -- "The Package" -- 03/30/10

Re: Lost -- "The Package" -- 03/30/10
Does anyone know if this episode runs long? Someone just told me that the Canadian broadcaster cuts the episode so it can air before American Idol. Have I been missing stuff this season? Anyone know if future episodes are running over an hour? (Sorry for all the questions.)

Re: Lost -- "The Package" -- 03/30/10
I think this one is set to go a couple minutes long.

Re: Lost -- "The Package" -- 03/30/10
"The Package" could refer to so many things on Lost it isn't even funny! I will admit that last week's episode was the one I've been waiting all year for so this one has big shoes to fill.
Good theory btw Michael. I've always had a bad feeling about Jacob appearing to be the good guy, but who knows. We know the writers are huge Star Wars fans and they may just be copying ideas. Maybe neither of them are good/bad? Jacob (Obi-Wan), the good guy, sacrifices himself and shows up as a ghost to help his chosen one, Jack (Luke). MiB (Vader), neither of which were directly named when introduced, are depicted as pure evil and want to kill their longtime 'enemy'. (Jacob/Obi-Wan) Given Jacob's comment that the MiB, "was an old friend who grew tired of his company" perhaps MiB fell from grace similiar to Anakin Skywalker. Of course, Vader (MiB?) is eventually named and redeems himself .... That would suggest the ending results in MiB and Jacob coexisting in peace, balance being restored. (The Alt?) |
Re: Lost -- "The Package" -- 03/30/10
It's pretty obvious that the MiB is the "good" guy or at least the "lighter gray" guy.
Nice music so far. A bit of an old adventure movie / Star Wars feel in the first sequence on the island. |

Sun workin' it.

Re: Lost -- "The Package" -- 03/30/10
It's now VERY obvious that Locke needs to kill all six remaining candidates to be free. However, he has to have someone else do it just like he did with Jacob.
