The Office -- "Manager and Salesman" -- 02/11/10

The Office

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
In the wake of Sabre's buyout of Dunder Mifflin, new CEO Jo Bennett (Kathy Bates) arrives in Scranton, awing the staffers with her charismatic Southern style. But Bennett is against having two branch managers, a policy shift that impacts Michael and Jim, one of whom must step down from their managerial post and return to salesman duty. Meanwhile, a Valentine's Day plan blows up on Andy.

With the olympics coming, will these continue or will there be a hiatus?

After tonight, no more Office until March 4, and I do believe it's an hour long that night.

Does that go for the other shows, like community, parks, etc? I should I ask in those respective threads?

"Did you see Saw?"

"Yes, Mose and I seesaw all the time."

It took me a second to realize what he said, but probably one of my new favourite Dwight lines.

I'm already sick of Kathy Bates.

Glad Jim's back in sales

I lost it when Jim nonchalantly grabbed the end of Dwight's tie and just stuck it in his coffee cup.

That was good for a laugh every time they showed it.

Decent episode. It's a shame there's such a wait until the next one.

Re: The Office -- "Manager and Salesman" -- 02/11/10

Did anybody notice that Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer, the new Spider-man reboot) directed this episode? Pretty cool.

I don't like Kathy Bates on this show.

Jim dunking Dwight's tie in coffee is classic. I hope the pranks pick back up and Jim messing with Dwight continues. It would be the return to the earlier days that this show needs.

Agree. This was a good episode. I haven't truly enjoyed an episode of The Office in quite some time, but I liked this one. Love that Jim is back in sales. Personally, I just didn't think the whole "co-manager" thing went anywhere and seemed out of place. I know I've been one of the people going on and on about how the show used to be good and whatnot, but Jim moving away from sales was unnecessary. He's back where he belongs and hopefully will help get The Office back to its old ways.

Re: The Office -- "Manager and Salesman" -- 02/11/10

I thought there were several good laughs in this one. But I also agree with the opinions above that Kathy Bates was a bit too much. She seemed to be channeling her character from Titanic, and it just didn't work. It was good that they have finally dropped the "co-manager" plot, too. Never cared for it, and it made Jim even less of an interesting character.

Now that was a rock-solid episode. Much better than last week's.

Great to see that the pranks will return. Glad to see Jim get back to his old Jim-ness.

Not only that, but also Dwight's "oh, yeah, great film...almost as fun as *looks to camera* going on a seesaw". Oh my God I loved that entire exchange so much. I love his apparent undying love of a seesaw.

I love the Dwight/Ryan team, Andy/Erin relationship, Michael as the only manager, Jim back in sales and pranking, and everything else going on right now.

Agreed. Great episode, and I hope we get some of the old Jim.

Hope Kathy Bates isn't around too much longer. Don't really care for her.

Best episode of the season - by far. The constant crotch sniffing dogs will go down in Office history.

Crotch sniffing dogs is a classic moment?

Re: The Office -- "Manager and Salesman" -- 02/11/10

Yeah, when Jim took off his suit coat and rolled up his sleeves, I just grinned because it just felt "right". Of course, him dunking Dwight's tie was the clincher.

The look on Andy's face when he was looking around while the dogs were sniffing him at his desk had me crying with laughter.

Isn't Erin just adorable? I do hope they let Andy and her get on with the dating though.

Re: The Office -- "Manager and Salesman" -- 02/11/10

I liked the episode but I hope they don't just reset back to the first few seasons. These characters need to grow, not go back to their "old versions". I'm glad they invented a reason for Jim to go back to sales, because there was no way he would have taken his old job back if there hadn't been incentive.

Another good episode in a great season. Not as good as others have been (again, if I wanted to see "2nd Season" versions of these characters, I'd pop in the DVDs) but the writers haven't let me down yet.
