That looked like the Barbara Gordon version of Batgirl in the episode. Hopefully she is added to the team.

She is on the team. Someone (Nightwing maybe) told someone from the Justice League they had their 'B' team near the UN building. I think there are like 3 or 4 different teams now.

That Lobo fight was epic.

I liked that Lobo showed up, did his thing and bounced out.

But it was just that DC regime's love of the Silver Age, where they wanted to revert everyone back to the more familiar figures (Hal Jordan GL, Ronnie Raymond Firestorm, Ray Palmer Atom, etc.). Then they go and kill off the original Aqualad to make a black version to match the TV show, and then they reboot the universe anyway.

I guess I missed both showings of the first episode because of the name change, and seeing as how they will never reair it in my lifetime, I guess I'm off to the website.

The time skip thing is a pretty common convention, basically a way to throw you into an into a story in medias res, and allow you to pick up the pieces slowly but surely. DC did it in their comics when they skipped ahead one year after Infinite Crisis. Japanese series like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, etc. have done it. Hopefully it helps the series garner more ratings.

At least in Dragon Ball (never saw or read those others) they didn't skip ahead while in the middle of a dangling plot thread :p

Yeah, I've got to say this feels like a real misstep. Skipping ahead isn't so much the issue, but skipping ahead while adding in so many new characters and while not explaining the absence of former core characters just smacks of poor decision making.

Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

The time jump simply felt like a way to reboot the show and plausibly introduce a multitude of new characters. There is no way they are going to be able to give as much character development to each character like they did in season one.

maybe we will get that over the future episodes. :)

It wouldn't surprise me if we find out that Artemis went rogue and became a villain in the five years. I have a feeling that Aqualad is either dead or ruler of Atlantis somehow.

Which is kinda like Justice League vs. Justice League Unlimited (not the main characters going missing thing, but the expansion from a core group of characters that were well developed to throwing the whole DC universe on there and filling it with more action).

I like the time jump. Really shook things up.
I notice they gave Adam Strange a different backstory.
In the original comics he was a explorer/relic hunter now he is a sciencist.
Also good to see Nightwing, Robin(Tim), and Batgirl(Barbara) in action.

No love for GL:TAS. Good episode with the Star Sapphires.

So we got some backstory confirming beast boy and the blood transfusion, and a little bit on superboy/miss Martian.

Other than that, I thought it was kind of meh. Not horrible, just not that good.

Beast boy is annoying. I think it was a mistake making the aliens so physically non-imposing. Yeah theyre planning an invasion but it looks like a 6 year old could beat one up.

I hadn't really thought that but I think you hit the nail on the head. The aliens look closer to pets than intimidating creatures.

I actually liked beast boy. He acts like a kid because he is one.

To be clear, I have no problem with Beast Boy's portrayal. He's not annoying to me.

+1
Not a fan of the jump.

I only caught the tail end of that episode but last week was the first full episode I watched. It was better than I had expected (the CGI made me think it was going to be far more kiddie than what it is). However, I was sadened to see that Ian Ambercrombie passed away. :rip:

This was a very good episode, I thought.

The JL and YJ fighting side-by-side. The "Bat-Team" of Batman, Batgirl, Robin, and Nightwing. Then the Supers and the Wonders and the Atlanteans all fighting together. Even the Martians working together to steal some tech. Very cool.

Nice to find out about aqualad - keeping with the comics, too, regarding his dad. Want to find out what happened to aquagirl.

I think they're piecing things together nicely after the 5-year jump.

For those complaining that the aliens were too small to be a threat, we now learn they are not the real threat. I wonder if the line "I was attacked by a competitor's warrior" was about Blue Beetle? I would assume so.

Deftones 05-12-12 01:46 PM

Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

yeah, the competitor warrior line was definitely about blue beetle. wow. didn't see aqualad being a villain. i really hope they delve into the story why he went bad.

that recon mission was badass. batman, robin, nightwing, batgirl all fighting side by side.

Loved this episode. As mentioned before the JL/YJ teamup was fantastic.

Fantastic episode.

Anyone else think that....
Spoiler:
Kaldur might be secretly working for the JL and trying to infiltrate the Light?

This episode was miles better.

I also got a big kick out of the Superfriends song during the DC Nation break.

Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

Seeing the Batfamily in action together was great. Wonder Woman's line about being less of a fan girl and more of a wonder girl was perfect in that situation. I still don't like how every DC animated show makes Superman as weak as possible. He got knocked out by that explosion, which was eerily realistic for a show on Cartoon Network. At least on Earth 16 (yes, Young Justice has its own designation in the DC multiverse) Superman's costume is indestructible.
