Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

I'm wondering if they are tying this series to the Justice League: Crisis in Two Universe film. It's the same art style.

ok, so after seeing that, i'm a little more optimistic about this. not a fan of using the kid angle, but it looks like they are making it more adult in nature.

Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

I wonder if they're going to have some flashback stuff? That would be cool. I say that because they had "Speedy" and "Red Arrow"(Adult Speedy) drawings.

EDIT: Not flashbacks.

i'm beginning to hate this trend of putting ads before trailer. grrrr

looks great, though. george eads (CSI) appears to be doing the flash voice.

It seems like they renamed Arrowette into Artemis. My question is, why no Wonder Girl?

Concept is basically a group of young heroes under the direction of the Justice League, right? But with a Dick Grayson Robin and a Wally West Kid Flash. Ah, who am I kidding, I'll watch it. And while Batman Brave and the Bold was squarely aimed at a younger crowd, I loved it... this is definitely the way to introduce kids, who would never spend 4 bucks for a comic, to the characters in the DC Universe.

Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

Got a good review from AICN.

The Cartoon Network’s “Young Justice,” a quasi-sequel to both “Justice League Unlimited” and “Teen Titans,” but set in its own continuity.

What I like about it:

* This could turn out to be the most inclusive cartoon DC Universe yet, with a Justice League that sports not only Batman, Green Arrow, Aquaman, Flash and their sidekicks, but also Captain Marvel, Hawkman, two Green Lanterns – Hal Jordan (finally) AND John Stewart – and old man magician crimefighter Zatara (whose membership in this series’ Justice League suggests a girl magician may soon to joining the sidekick squad.) The first 16 episodes are said to utilize 135 DC comics characters.

* It’s set on Earth-16, with a Dick Grayson Robin and a Wally West Kid Flash.

* It starts out a lot better than the War of the Worlds storyline that launched the “Justice League” TV show.

* Its voice cast includes Bruce Greenwood as Batman, Alan Tudyk as Green Arrow, Danica McKellar as Miss Martian and George Eads as Flash.

* There are strong hints this series will employ more continuity than any prior DC-derived series.

* The credits give props to Kane, Siegel, Shuster, Marston AND Joseph Samachson (the latter for creating J’onn Jonzz, Manhunter From Mars).

* Some of the design work used in the series is quite striking.

An hour-long first episode arrives tonight and the rest of its first season launches sometime in January.

7 p.m. Black Friday. The Cartoon Network.

Saw the preview clip. DC seems to have a lot of knock-off villians. 4 ice-based ones in that clip.

What do you mean "knock off villains"? The same 4 were in "Batman/Superman: Public Enemies". There are at least 4 Ice based Villains in the DCU.

Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

I mean it is strange there are essentially 4 of the same villian in the DC universe. Its like someone came up with one & whoever wrote the other 3 heroes copied him/her to face their hero. For example: Batman's writers came up with Mr Freeze & the person writing Flash saw it and came up with Captain Cold. Then Aquaman's writer saw those & made his own but made a little variation. Note: I have no idea who was first. Where villians not allowed to cross books back then? I know in Marvel, Juggernaught can show up in a Avengers book & not be limited to X-Men books.

Damn, I missed it. Does anyone know if or when this is going to get repeated? I couldn't find additional airings on Cartoon Network's schedule.

I'm not sure, but I think I read somewhere that this was the only airing until it starts in January.

Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

Thought it was very well done. It had the production values of one of DCs Straight to Video animated movies. Cant wait to see more. And Aqua lad is far cooler than his name would lead you to believe.

I liked it. Story was good. Animation was fantastic. Liked that we'll be seeing all the DC superheroes in cameos. Felt like a natural continuation of JLA/JLU.

For a lot of the early DC history, characters existed in their own continuity 95% of the time. Hell, they were published by different companies before falling under DC's imprint. Unlike today it was not assumed that a person who read Batman necessarily also read the Flash. And recurring villains were the exception, not the norm for much of the first 20 years of comics.

The character you couldn't ID is the Icicle, who is the son of a foe of the Golden Age Green Lantern of the same name. The Icicle first appeared in 1947. Captain Cold appeared in 1957, which was a lifetime in comicbook generations from 1947. Mr Freeze in 1959. Killer Frost, a female enemy of the character Firestorm, in 1978.

Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

It was hinted at in the opener that there is a reason for all of the ice villains to have been active at the same time.

Correct, Batman was debriefing the Adult League about the Ice attacks just before Superman called about the fire.
