He is a nephew of Iris Allen, if I remember correctly. He basically got his power in a repeat of the accident that gave Barry his.

The 'original' Flash from the Justice Society is Jay Garrick. He was the old man in the episode. This was mostly the WWII era of comics. Since then they have used him and the rest of the Justice Society in different ways in the modern comics and cartoons.

Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

Right - Jay Garrick is the old school flash. Like Alan Scott is the old school green lantern (but his powers aren't related to the green lantern corps like Hal Jordan, Jon Stewart, etc.). Didn't know that Garrick was associated with central city, though.

Alan Scott is also the gay character in DCs "New 52". Which makes sense - he's always had a weakness for wood...

As for this episode, I thought it was good. Loved all the flashes working together. Seemed like the competitors were the ones controlling Neutron.

Utterly ridiculous that red arrow and Cheshire would bring their baby with them on a mission like that.

Written by Peter David. They've really raised the bar since adding Invasion to the title.

That whole scene was awful with the baby on her back in the middle of a ninja compound, fighting to the death.

Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

Post-Crisis Flash (Wally West) was much slower than Barry Allen and had to eat tons of food to keep his metabolism up (prior to Crisis, he was about the same speed as Barry but retired because somehow the speed was killing him). They also took pretty much that whole Vandal Savage/racing with the heart to a hospital scene from the post Crisis comic. Then he got caught up in the speed force and a bunch of other things happened to make him much faster. Then Geoff Johns decided that he wanted Barry back, so Wally got relegated to the background and then written out entirely in the new universe.

I still say writers like to limit speedsters because they're too powerful otherwise. That's why Superman rarely uses his super speed effectively.

Agree - but they do seem to introduce ways to make speedsters more powerful.

Running fast? Check, got it.
Running so fast you can create a tornado? Sure, I buy it.
Running so fast you can travel through time? Technically plausible, but you're losing me.
Vibrating so fast you can pass through walls/handcuffs/whatever? um, now we're just adding new powers and claiming being fast supports it

I really like the fact that Wally has to eat so much. That seems like a legitimate negative to being a speedster - your metabolism would be crazy. But i don't think other speedsters have that problem.

By all rights Flash should never really lose a fight, ever. Even without all of those speed gimmicks.
1) you cant hit him 2) he could hit you enough times to kill you in a second 3) Since Power = Mass x Velocity the force of his punches should be off the charts.

They dumped that limitation for Wally a few years into his run as the Flash. What became a problem with Wally was the all-pervasive Speed Force™ that took over everything. He basically became an all-powerful Speed God as the Speed Force™ was the source for all speedsters' powers. I still think they took that concept way too far.

DC seems to love that power type.

Marvel only has Quicksilver, right? I can't think of any other Marvel fast guys (got sick of typing "speedster" ) off the top of my head.

DC loves speedsters like Marvel loves telepaths/telekinetics.

Quicksilver's the most prominent.

Off the top of my head:

There's the unfortunately named "The Whizzer" in several incarnations (all speedsters to my knowledge).

Northstar is (was?) primarily a speeder, but I think he's got some other powers too (flight).

Super Sabre was a member of Freedom Force.

Spitfire (one of the Invaders) was a speedster.

There was an Elder of the Universe called "The Runner", but as an Elder he had Silver Surfer level powers.

This is not really related to Young Justice, but Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes has been canceled so Disney can make their "own" Avengers cartoon. All good Marvel cartoons are snake-bitten.

Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

I was wondering if the success of the movie was going to translate to the already-running series, but I guess not. So are they doing this to bring it closer to the movie version of the Avengers? I loved the movie, but I'd rather get a bigger universe with more super powered heroes and villains than the movie universe has.

No, the show was doing well in the ratings and had popular support from Marvel fans. It was solely canceled because Disney did not produce the show in-house and wanted those profits to stay with them. The replacement for Avengers is supposed to resemble the craptacular Ultimate Spider-Man show aimed at juveniles.

Considering Disney's new Avengers game on the WiiU will have a ton of the marvel universe in it (Wolverine, Spiderman), this isn't a huge surprise.

That was a good episode with some interesting reveals. Up until now, I hadn't been impressed by the new season. But I liked seeing the old team back together.

I wonder if there's gonna be any reaction from Sportsmaster and Cheshire.

Definitely interesting. I just never bought Aqualad going bad and figured there was an angle. I didn't see Atermis going undercover, too, though. I figured they were killing her off so she and Wally could get out of the game.

Re: Young Justice League Animated Series in the works

After being critical of the 5 year jump, i'm liking the different plot lines going on a lot now, although it feels like there's a lot going on. With Roy/Cheshire doing their thing, Aqualad/Kid Flash/Nightwing/Artemis doing theirs, and then the Impulse and time travel thing, all on top of the existing plot line of the alien stuff.

Neither of which are produced by Disney AFAIK.
