The Office -- "Sabre" -- 02/04/10

The Office

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
A mysterious company named Sabre, headed by a magnetic, unorthodox CEO (Kathy Bates), swoops in and buys out Dunder Mifflin. As Michael balks at Sabre's new policies, Andy and Erin write a welcome song to greet the company. Meanwhile, Pam and Jim hope to get accepted into a desired local day-care center.

Paul Lieberstein, aka Toby Flenderson and The Office's showrunner, recently mentioned in an article about Holly that:

Spoiler:
She will not return to the show this season

So they're getting set up with daycare before the kid is born?

Very common practice nowadays. If you don't, you'll have difficulty finding a spot at a desired location.

I wish they'd bring her back and carry on that relationship with Michael. To me that was some of the funniest stuff from S4.

I would say its VERY rare to NOT get daycare set up before the baby is born. It's very difficult to find daycare for newborns. Home daycares can only have 1-2 babies.

that was a great episode. made up for the lousy clip episode. Loved the scissor me and Pams face when ever it happened. liked the stuff with Micheal pulling away from David Wallaces house.

I loved Erin singing about her "huge box" and Oscar muttering "you don't know what you're saying..." Hilarious.

"Suck it!"

Apparently this episode was directed by John Krasinski.

This was my favorite episode in a long time. Everything was top-notch from beginning to end. This season has really been outstanding so far. Can't wait to see what happens with Say-bra.

Whatever. As I said after last week's clip show, nowadays I'm just half-watching because it's sandwiched between shows that are actually good.

I loved this episode, too. Jim and Pam's conversation with the daycare guy had to be the funniest thing I've seen in a while.

We've talked about it here before, but this whole buyout / merger / layoff deal is the exact sort of topical attitude the show needed to take and I'm glad they're doing it. David Wallace's situation felt very real to me.

Except they've done similar story threads before and they're usually abandoned after just a few episodes. See: the branch merger and the Michael Scott Paper Company. Hell, they even shoe-horned Ryan back into the show. $10 says everything is back to "normal" by the end of the season.

Whether people realize it or not at the time, a job tends to give a person a sense of stability, something to depend on. When they lose that and they're freed from any type of job constraint, even something as simple as a dress code or a set lunch break, it's not uncommon for the person to spin out of orbit or go off the rails a bit and behave in an unexpected way, especially if you've been with a company for several years, as Wallace had; I totally bought his post-firing behavior. It's not like the show hasn't done this before (ie, Jan's downfall in season four). And though it was obvious what the writers were doing, I still think it was fun to see Michael and Wallace switch their normal roles of cool-headed businessman and overgrown child with crazy-ass ideas.

Whatever. As I said after last week's clip show, nowadays I'm just half-watching because it's sandwiched between shows that are actually good.
Strange you mention that, as I think 30 Rock's season so far has been pretty disappointing. Parks and Rec on the other hand is comic gold.
