If something makes no sense based on show continuity and can be relatively cheaply fixed, do it. If you explain it on the show, you have to keep it the way it is.

ETA: The accent change helps explain and therefore helps the audience accept when Michael slips into and out of accents (of varying quality and believability). They're in the deception business, and they have some skills.
What part of my saying that they should have fixed it AS SOON AS they decided that Gabrielle Anwar was not going to continue with the accent is so difficult to understand?

He'll always be Private Dancer to me.

How did they explain it in Enterprise? I think I've almost successfully removed most of its existence from my memory.

Redubbing the lines before the pilot/show originally aired makes some sense. However, Fiona's backstory is that she's Irish and former IRA. If they redubbed her lines, they would've also possibly needed some pickups to explain why an Irish woman doesn't have an Irish accent, or to give her a different backstory.

The producers probably decided they liked the "former IRA" backstory and wanted to keep it, and instead decided to explain away the Irish accent in the second episode.

The "ridgeless" Klingons were due to the cure for the Klingon augment virus which threatened to wipe them all out if not cured. And the ridges apparently returned only after a few generations had passed since the treatment was administered.

Re: Why don't they go back and fix that?

1. The reason why they don't fix this stuff is because it would cost money and not get them anything in return. Even if it cost one dollar, that's a dollar wasted.

2. I'm so glad I never wasted any time watching Enterprise. Klingon augment virus? What a bullshit explanation. The Great Bird's, 'people will understand we didn't have the money for that kind of makeup in the '60s', explanation is fine, should have been fine, and should have been adhered to.

It was a pretty thoughtful explanation in its elaborate-ness, as it involved the ancestor of Data's creator and a group of Khan 2.0 superhumans, but ultimately it tried so hard it was just ridiculous.

I'm guessing that even though FOX didn't air it in the first season, they still had first broadcast rights to it, and so didn't want it to be released on DVD before it aired.

The Dollhouse Season 1 situation is different, since the final episode for that season wasn't commissioned by FOX, so they didn't have any broadcast rights to it.
