If I were Conan O'Brien, I would have the Masturbating Bear as my only guest for an hour every night until NBC fired me.

Jeff Zucker has to be the worst network head ever. The only reasonable explanation for him not being ousted years ago is he has photos of every GE Exec having sex with kids and or animals.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?
At this point I just don't care what NBC does, as long as they don't touch Thursday night. And it would be nice to see them run "Rex Is Not Your Lawyer".
They've already fucked up Conan, to the point where I'd be happy with him going anywhere else--preferably somewhere that he can do his own show, not a ridiculously watered down version.

I believe that if Conan severs his relationship with NBC, they would pay him $25 million to stay off TV until sometime in 2011.

When they announced the line-up change years ago I had thought it was a bad idea... turns out it was indeed. I like Conan's late night humor, but this watered down shit is not funny at all. I like how they moved Andy next to him before the first guest comes out (just like old times, not really).
I've been watching Jimmy Kimmel off and on for the past couple of years (more so lately...) and, I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I feel Kimmel is much more funnier than Conan.
I still feel this cluster-fuck that Jeff Zucker created still hasn't fully finished destroying NBC prime-time/late night programming as we know it.

as much as I hate Leno and NBC, this all would not be an issue if Conan's numbers were better.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?
I think the GE management will watch how well NBC does with the Winter Olympics. If NBC loses money big time (as rumored by several sources), they will fire Zucker, and NBC Sports President Dick Ebersol could go with him.

Anyone taking over The Tonight Show would probably drop in numbers for a short bit. But conjecture has it that if you mix that factor with the fact that Leno is still on every night and people aren't watching their local news because of it (the big pull-in for The Tonight Show), Conan is destined to fail no matter how good the show is.

So Jay at 11:30-12:05 then Conan comes on for the hour. I'm fine with that, the slightly later time maybe would allow him to be more like his Late Night Days. I just hope they don't get rid of Conan entirely. Not only for him but think about all his staff that made the move to LA from NYC with him. That would SUCK if they got fucked over.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?
A half-hour of Jay would basically be a monologue and a quick guest by the time commercials are factored in. I don't think this would help Conan, in fact probably be worse for him.
They never should have messed with it, Conan was perfect in his time slot and NY locale. Just not the same now. And Fallon sucks.

I would like to see some of his older stuff back on the show. (Actual Items, Ass Stamp, If they Mated, The Walker, Texas Ranger Lever, Desk Driving, Before Plastic Surgery.)

There's no law that says the Tonight Show can't have cohosts. Instead of figuring out how to split the timeslots, why not put O'Brien and Leno on together and see who survives -- the Chin or the Forehead.

I wouldn't mind Conan on FOX, since they would surely let him have free reign of material.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?
To me Kimmel "can be" just as good or better than the rest. He had the best Tiger joke when he stated that Tigers mother in-law moved in to help with the beatings. His only downfall to me is his whoring himself and show out to products and ABC shows. And an obvious pandering to the teeny crowd at times.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?
I read somewhere that NBC pays Conan $28 million a year for a 2 year contract. Would Fox match that offer or pay him more? What happens if he moves to Fox and the ratings are worst than if he were on NBC?
Some of the stuff on the Tonight show is horrible. Conan's Tabloid Moment, Twitter Tracker, etc.
I would like to see some of his older stuff back on the show. (Actual Items, Ass Stamp, If they Mated, The Walker, Texas Ranger Lever, Desk Driving, Before Plastic Surgery.)

I really like Leno, but his new show is really bad not as good as it was on the tonight show from the new gags, bits, 10 at 10 or what ever its called, where he asks lame questions to a celeb, earn your plug etc. I think they should just give Leno an hour show once a week or do a weekend type of late night show.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?
They should have put the local news at 10pm-1030 ( like most local stations do ) then have leno 1030-1130 then conan 1130-1230. Since the big compliant is that local affliates are complaining about the low ratings hurting the ad revenu for the nightly news which is where about half of there income comes from. This way they get a big lead in from the 9pm hour for the news.

? Local news is at 10 in the Central and Mountain time zones and 11 on the coasts. You do realize that when they talk about Jay being on at 10 that they mean on the coasts, right? (Another reason 10 and 10 is stupid, it doesn't apply in half the country)

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?
This whole situation is just dumb. If NBC was that worried about losing Leno they should have never offered The Tonight Show spot to Conan in the first place. It was a dumb move to ever give Jay a new show in prime time.

Conan O'Brien -- Such a Hard Decision
Posted Jan 10th 2010 12:25AM by TMZ Staff
Conan O'Brien is sitting on a decision that could be worth as much as $80 million, sources tell TMZ.
Conan O'Brien, Jay Leno
We broke the story the Jay Leno will be reclaiming his old time slot. There has been speculation that NBC exercised a loophole, which would allow the network to give Conan a portion of his time slot back (12:05-12:35) without having to pay Conan a penalty -- but sources tell us that is not the case.
We're told NBC is in breach of it's agreement with Conan by moving the start time of his show. As a result, Conan now has three options.
Option 1: Quit the show and spend the next four years at the beach. If Conan does this, our sources say NBC would have to pay him the value of his contract. We're told it's a five-year deal, worth as much as $20 million a year. With four years to go, Conan could conceivably get $80 million. But given his skin pigmentation and, possibly, his ego, the beach is unlikely.
Option 2: Go to either FOX or ABC. This is where it gets complicated. If Conan were to strike a deal with either network to do a competing show, any salary Conan pulls in would offset the obligation owed by NBC. So, for example, if Conan made $20 million a year at NBC and ABC were to pay him $15 million a year, NBC would only owe Conan $5 mil a year for the four years remaining in his contract.
Option 3: Eat crow and take the 12:05-1:05 time slot. If Conan takes this option, our sources say it's likely NBC would negotiate a new contract with the same salary Conan was getting before. Even though the salary isn't supported by the time period, it's cheaper than paying him off. NBC, we're told, prefers this option, because Conan would not be splintering Leno's rating by going to another network.
So, Conan, will it be door #1, 2 or 3?
Stay tuned ...

I'd take door #2, and sign a contact with FOX for $1.
