Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?

Apparently, Kimmel is doing bad jokes while dressed as Jay Leno. Thank god Kimmel is delayed here in Chicago after an Oprah repeat.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?

Jimmy Kimmel is absolutely eviscerating Leno. He's come out with a gray wig and big fake chin and is doing his monologue as Jay Leno. After every joke they're playing the same musical cue and making the audience cheer after ever joke. He really does have a skewed version of his mannerisms and speech patterns down.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?

Yep, Kimmel is great. The entire monologue as Leno, Cleto was laughing at all the dumb jokes like Eubanks usually does, and he's doing headlines next.

Ratings are going to be up for every late night show, I think (including Leno).

Leno should step down in shame. Clearly most of Hollywood is on Conan's side.

Looks like it's going to be the entire show...I think it'll be on ABC.com tomorrow.

Doing really stupid headlines now.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?

Holy shit, the headlines skit might actually be better than the monologue. If you're awake and dislike Leno, you really owe it to yourself to watch this.

Damn, I was hoping that headlines would go longer. He's apparently going to do the interviews in character as well.

I like Leno and find it batshit hilarious.

And now Chevy Chase comes on as Conan.

WOW, I have been watching Conan (who killed in his monologue imo) but by the sounds of it I need to PVR the west feed of Kimmel.

It's an odd situation, but I can't ever remember anything like this where EVERYONE is just unabashedly killing Leno almost as a concentrated effort across networks/brands.

It's even worse than usual tonight -- after Nightline, they're airing the Senate debate, then the nightly Oprah repeat, and then Jimmy comes on at 1:05 a.m. (2 hours after it airs in the rest of the Eastern and Central time zones).

I have to stay up and watch it anyways, but if I didn't, DVR FTW.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?

Part of Ferguson's monologue: "Craig, aren't you burning your bridges there at NBC? Yes! What do you mean you don't want to work for NBC ever in your career? No, they're lying rat bastards, have I made it clear?"

I liked Ferguson running through the cast list for Late Shift 2: "And for Carson Daly, they've cast an unknown actor named Carson Daly."

Kimmel doing the Jay laugh to himself before showing the last fake ad killed me. So goddamn perfect.

This statement shows a severe lack of understanding on how ratings work (and how that turns into ad revenue for stations).

The network CANNOT stand behind a show that causes their top market news affiliates to lose money. Without the affiliates, there IS no network. And a few of the biggest were about to dump Leno which is very bad for business all around.

I'm a producer for a daytime talk show and the lead-in is very important to our daily numbers. We actively try to hold those viewers every day, and it has nothing to do with the quality of our show (we've done great shows with poor ratings and shitty shows with outstanding ratings). It's about enforcing habits for the majority of your viewers. If you can hold them from one show to the next, you have a good chance of keeping them. The fact is that if there just weren't any viewers watching Leno, there is little the affiliates can do to pull viewers across the dial.

That said, I'm enjoying this clusterfuck as I'd rather see anything in that slot than 5 nights of shitty "comedy" done on the cheap.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?

Wow...looks like all the other late night hosts have been holding back on the Leno-bashing for years and decided that now was the perfect time to unload.

I haven't watched any of the late night shows in a long, long time (I think the last time I watched more than a couple minutes of any of them was Kimmel's first few shows) but I may have to watch the next few days for the Leno-bashing, if nothing else. The Kimmel clips we particularly funny (and brutal).
